Today at work, when I entered the reception area and opened the door, I was met with quite a sight – a beautiful little house gecko, also known to us as the “tarantula lizard.”
It’s yellowish in color, sometimes brown, and depending on its surroundings, it can change color. When it hides indoors, it becomes almost transparent, and you can nearly see all of its organs.
It has little white spots on its body that look like warts, and I believe those, along with its ability to change color, are part of its defense mechanism.
Older folks used to say that these animals are poisonous if they bite you, but it turned out that’s not true.
Quite the opposite – these little creatures are very useful because they catch mosquitoes, flies, grasshoppers, and other small pests.
They are most commonly found along the coast, and you’ll see them everywhere – in taverns, houses, gardens, and even on the top floors of buildings because they can easily climb vertical walls.
In any case, I find them beautiful and very interesting, and since they’re completely harmless and helpful, I never touch or disturb them – they simply leave on their own when they spot potential prey.
I hope you enjoyed my little post about this fascinating lizard.
