📷 A little question about the photo

in Photography Lovers4 years ago (edited)

One of the small but worth mentioning problems of shooting in beautiful places for me is the following: let's say I see a beautiful location in front of me, some kind of beautiful object, for example, a mountain. If everything is more or less good with the weather and light, and I do not have strong time limits, then I start photographing it a lot: from one angle, from a different angle, with a different foreground, with a slightly different light pattern, at a different scale, etc.

And as a result, I sometimes get a dozen photos of one place / one object that are beautiful and good (in my opinion), and although noticeably different from each other, but at the same time rather similar — and what to do with so many good shots, is unclear for me. Well, the truth is, I can't always choose with a light heart 1 or 2 out of a dozen good photos of the same place from different angles.

As with this mountain, for example. In the very first photo of the post, the mountain itself and the light spots on it are clearly visible, you can look at the details. And in the photo below is the same mountain, but from a distance, with the focus in the foreground — the bush and the ground, and behind them you can see the mountain itself, and how it looks as a whole in the landscape. And I have quite a lot of such variations of its photos: we finished trekking, walked from the mountains and I began to photograph it from afar and gradually shot at different stages of the path from different angles. I have even posted some photos of these here, perhaps you will remember.

Well, how, how can I decide and choose the best 1-2 pictures that are more worthy of being published if I like almost everything? :) I certainly want to show them all, and at the same time I understand that it will probably not be so interesting for the people to watch them one by one. Photographers, do you have such a thing? How do you deal with this?

The photo was taken in Pakistan, near the village of Passu, in the central photo of the post — the beautiful Passu Cones, and the other two photos are an unnamed (for me) mountain, one of the closest to the village.

It's better to watch the photo in high resolution.

it probably depends on why and where you want to show it. if it is some kind of story all 3 photos work well together. if it is stand alone, then that is hard :)

Thanks for the answer! :)

Usually I try to tell mini stories, describe the places where I photograph and what. And 2-3-4 photos really work well and are illustrative. But if I have a dozen nice photos of one place (for example, in this post there were far from all the nice shots with this mountain and the surrounding valley that I have :)), then sometimes I do not have enough texts to intersperse the photos with interesting meaningful things, and sometimes - I think, isn't it boring for people to look at the same place from all sides?...

P.s. And it's often rather hard for me to choose one the best shot from a series 😆

i totally understand your struggle and i didn't find a solution for it :) i have the same problem even with portraits :D

and in the end you will always be wrong, as there will always be someone who would say that he likes the other one :D

Eh, I was hoping for a magic solution recipe :)) It seems to me that it is even more difficult with portraits than with a landscape :)

Well these 3 in particular look vastly different to me and I like them all. Each one shows different details that the other ones don't. I often struggle with having too little to chose from unlike you. Mostly due to the short periods of time we usually have around where we go. I'm quite jealous of some of your photography though.. I may have to start taking my time too and try that approach. 😀

Thanks for answering. And I'm glad you like my photo :)

Yes, these three are quite different, but the question is, when I have some more good photos from the same place, what should I do with them?

Of course, I understand the problem of lack of choice, it often happens to me too, but if I didn’t take photo I really like, then I didn’t post it. Therefore, lately I have begun to try to plan time for shooting on vacation trips, but this is not always realizable, alas. I think it's cool when we manage to shoot something good in a limited time :)

And by the way photos in your posts are rather good, and the drone photos provide additional interesting angles, I like that.

Thank you so much! Really means a lot to someone pretty new to photography to hear that! ^^

As for the many pics, if I had a lot of similar ones I like - maybe would split them across different channels I usually appload. Throw some on Hive, some for our facebook page, etc. That way you have slightly different content for each and you utilize all the shots you like. :)

You are welcome! Do not stop in progress, and everything will get even better :)

By the way, this is an interesting variant, thanks! I abandoned my FB and Instagram a little, but I'm going to start paying more attention to them, and I can really share photos between them.

I think you did a very well job, all pictures are good and depending on the post you are going to write sometimes more is better sometimes less is better but in my opinion it has to be a good mixture of long and short articles. So probably try writing one longer post with more pictures a week and shorter ones in the next days. But try not to go over 10 Pictures and 10.000 words. Because most people stop reading such a long post. The attention level on the internet is probably not the biggest and as more and more people use smartphones or tablet reading articles like these their attention level is probably between 5 and 15 minutes. So if it takes more than 15 minutes to read and see all the picture of your article it is probably not the best. Then I think it is probably better to split the text in 2 articles and post it the next time.

Thanks for your opinion! I also think that too long posts are difficult and not everyone likes to read them... but sometimes I just can't stop, like, for example, the whole series of posts from Pakistan. There were a lot of them (really big posts with 30-50 photos, although definitely not with more than 10.000 words), and if I still cut them into pieces... I would post the series for a year :) However, there were at least photos from more than one place, and for half a day or a whole day of travel :))

Usually I try to make small posts, but making a post (about one place or with the view of one object) with 2-3-4 photos, sometimes I wonder what to do with the other 4-5-6 pretty photos of the same place. Sometimes yes, I do another article with them, later :)

La montaña se ve impresionante

Oh yeah! Especially with these patches of light and shadow from the clouds. So I shot it a lot :)
