I love to but you definitely need to know how to get back, a compass is necessary. As for hike's I could recommend, really not sure, so many to choose throughout the world. I do wish to go to Yosemite one day though.
No, I would mostly stick to the trail. There are just so many marked trails, so no need to take unnecessary chances.
