I walk through the streets of a big city and feel as if I am the center of the world. All around me are buildings, people, cars and noise. Everything is so big and alive, as if the city lives its own life independently of me.

I agree with your line of thought, I consider that cities manifest themselves by themselves, and in great part by what their inhabitants contribute.
