I caught this bullfrog hanging out on the road in the morning near a swampy area. I've been looking for a bullfrog because I've been seeing lots of green frogs and wanted to do a comparison. American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) vs Green Frog (Lithobates clamitans).

Green Frog (Lithobates clamitans)

Green frog coloration can vary quite a bit. The easiest distinguishing factor is the ridge running from the eye all the way along the side of the Green frog. On the Bullfrog the ridge only runs a short way then turns down and stops.

This Green frog is in the creek that runs along side my yard.

In this shot, you can see the whole frog body under water.

Creek is a little aspirational. Its a swampy area with a small channel that runs most of the year.

Well camouflaged green frog. Sometimes you just realize how perfectly an animal fits into its environment 🙂

Speaking of camo...

Northern Leopard Frog (Lithobates pipiens) which is the official state amphibian of Vermont 😁

Can you find both frogs and see the clumps of frog eggs?

Happy Frog Friday everyone!

That photo is so good I thought the frog was going to come to life and jump at me.

Very cool pics, escpecially the one about the Leopard Frog

Yeah I love the way the leopard stripes go across the legs and onto the body.

I hope all those frogs really have a taste for mosquitoes! Fantastic photos and a great comparison of the different types of your amphibian neighbors.

I'll share my frogs since you can't find any around your home 😉 Maybe I can convince some frogs to move out of the swamp and into my garden 🤔

Good to see the leopard frogs out. I saw a glimpse of one in the weeds just yesterday before it leapt instantly into the brush.

They are my favorite 🙂 we have wood frogs here too. I have heard them but not got any photos yet

I usually have to go up to Wisconsin to see any wood frogs, they are here too but I think they like it super high up in the trees.
