Salisbury, Vermont was chartered in 1761 in Addison County along the western edge of the Green Mountains. The northern part of Lake Dunmore is in Salisbury. I share many photos of the lake but thought I would share a few photos of the village today on this #sublimesunday.

Deming blacksmith shop dates back to 1794 and is on the National Historical Registry. The maples in front of the shop are tapped during maple syrup season.

The former town hall was built in 1869.

The town hall began housing the library in 1969 and has a small auditorium that was used by the school during the 1970s and 80s. Notice the "Free Public Library" on the sign. New England has a long history of providing free public libraries.

The classic white siding with green trim New England look is evident in this commercial building from 1906.

According to the old timers, there was a boarding house operated here. Laborers from the local industries, foresters, and farm hands found rooms here. The large windows and door on the far right was the dining hall.

The Salisbury Congregational Church was built in 1840. The church was built near the peak of the industrial activity in the area and reportedly used all local materials - the stone and timbers, plus the nails from local mills and even the glass from a glass works near Lake Dunmore.

Salisbury, Vermont currently has a population of about 1000 people which is about the same as it was in 1850 🙂 Thanks for joining me on my walk around my small, rural Vermont village this #beautifulsunday
The building with bright brown walls against a background of blue sky and white snow looks very aesthetically pleasing!
Thanks. That was my favorite shot also.
Thanks to @ackhoo and @qurator 🙏🙏
Cool buildings especially the Commercial block. I'd like to go back in time just to see the activity at that time.
Have a great week.

Sit around a shared table, eating with the other boarders, interesting conversations I'm sure. But they would probably have been drinking cider 😉

Looks like the commercial building that was a boarding house is the biggest building in the little town.
Yep. Not a lot to this little town. Not now, not back when they built that boarding house.
