Walking on water

Walking on water

I couldn't resist the cheesy "walking on water" joke 😜 We out on the lake this week. Supposedly the ice is up to 2 feet thick on most of the lake.

Fishing hut

I'm always worried about just walking on the ice. Its cold enough and iced over enough that there are some trucks out on the ice.

Jeep

As my retired Coast Gaurd rear admiral always says "No ice is safe ice". Lake Dunmore can be a dangerous lake in the winter. Several years ago 3 people died when their snowmobile fell through the ice.

North

The ice seems to go on forever in this photo looking north. There are some parts of the lake that are always risky like near the Sucker Brook inlet and near the outlet. Some of the more experienced locals also know where there are springs feeding the lake.

Mountain

It was a beautiful day with blue skies. Personally I like to be out on the lake when there are lots of other people out. Makes me feel safer - both because they think the ice is safe and because there are people around if something goes wrong.

Making sure others are on the ice before you go on is a good safety measure.

I usually like to look around for someone that is heavier than me 😆 small childern and dogs don't count lol

My husband said he'd never go ice fishing because he couldn't find people to help push the boat... :))

There's a lot to be said for a boat on a sunny summer afternoon versus inside a cold shed in the dark of winter 🙂

Let the jeep test out the ice first before venturing out lol. I wonder if there are any vintage vehicles at the bottom of the lake that have accumulated over the years.

😂
