🇬🇧 Foz do Iguaçu, a spectacle of water and colors

🇬🇧 Since my post about the Iguazú Falls in which I only covered the Argentine side, I’ve had the feeling that I committed a small injustice by not presenting the Brazilian side. An injustice I will correct today. Although the Brazilian side offers fewer walking options and fewer opportunities to get close to the water, it provides a much more complete view of the falls, almost a panoramic vision, one could say. A huge parking area has been built far from the site, and shuttle buses handle the transfers. It’s well organised and seems to be an efficient way to protect the area while keeping the visit pleasant. I’m also taking this opportunity to mention a bird park located not far from the parking area, just across the road, which I highly recommend. It can easily be visited on the same day as the falls.

🇬🇧 After about fifteen minutes on the bus through dense tropical forest, you reach the starting point of the panoramic trail, which offers impressive views of the falls and leads to the large walkway extending toward the base of Iguaçu’s most spectacular section: the Devil’s Throat. On this side, the national park provides an exceptional overview, the best vantage point to appreciate the immensity of the site, with more than 275 waterfalls spread across nearly three kilometres. The path is very accessible, dotted with viewpoints ideal for photographing the cascades from different angles. You may also encounter coatis, colourful butterflies, and many tropical birds. I strongly recommend walking beforehand around the parking area: it is quieter, less crowded, and home to abundant wildlife, including the iconic toucans that, I believe, one never tires of observing.

🇬🇧 The Bird Park, located just across from the entrance to the falls, is an unmissable visit for nature lovers. More than a simple zoo, it is an important conservation centre dedicated to the birds of the Atlantic Forest, including many threatened species. The visit follows a shaded path through huge immersive aviaries where you can observe toucans, multicoloured macaws, ibises, Amazon parrots and many other local species up close. The park also hosts butterflies, reptiles and a few rescued mammals. The atmosphere is peaceful, almost magical, offering an intimate approach to Brazilian biodiversity — a perfect complement to the falls and an equally fascinating immersion in the natural richness of Iguazú.
