With some spring temperatures moving in, the family and I went for a walk to Dundurn Castle in Hamilton Ont. to enjoy a beautiful afternoon. The museum was closed, so we checked out the grounds.
The "castle was built in 1835 by Sir Allan Napier MacNab, a railway magnate, lawyer and Premier of the United Canadas (1854-1856). He built the 40-room Italianate mansion to "one up" the other elite business men of the area, who shunned him. Why did they shun him? Well he was quite the character! During his election campaign he burned an effigy of his opponent, literally stole the front gate of the property from a neighbor, and held regular cock fights (cock fighting building below).
It was also pretty cool seeing the bay still frozen behind the property!

Cool aerial shots of the castle and the panorama!
