Summer Of Lights Series

in Photography Lovers11 months ago

Last night I went out for a late night walk to play around with steel wool and get some me time in. While walking I decided to make this summer all about light painting and long exposure practice. Making this the first post in my Summer Of Lights series!

I walked to Sam Lawrence Park on the escarpment in Hamilton Ont. and started with some steel wool experiments. I added components of small fireworks to the steel wool (this is dangerous), crossed my fingers and took this shot.

There was some loud bangs and crackles, but it worked and there was no injuries! My camera settings were way too bright though (30 second exposure, f11, iso 100). So I needed to try again with the last firework I had with me.

This time I went with a 10 second exposure, f14, iso 100. The exposure was much better but the firework did not get as "intense" as the first shot. I tested the concept and found out it will work. So another night there will be more attempts made. After snapping a couple more steel wool shots and one of the city skyline (we are still getting heavy smoke from forest fires) I moved on to light painting.

I spotted this little flower garden and used my LED light panel to highlight the taller flowers (settings: Exposure 30 seconds, f16, iso 100).

Knowing that my drawing skills are very limited (I've never tried anything past stick figures and smiley faces) I gave drawing a skull with Memento Mori a try (Settings: Exposure 96 seconds, f18, iso 100).

Then just as quick shots along the ay home, a light figure and a light trail shot.

It was a great and fun night of shooting and I cannot wait to share more!
