For red rocks and soil just head to southern Utah, it's everywhere... Especially around Moab, Utah in Arches National Park and Canyonlands!

Two hikes in one day will exhaust you for sure, glad you were able to get in a great workout! That log is pretty cool, kind of serpent like bark on it as it decays away. Very cool picture!
So cool, one of these days will need to explore that state to it's fullest.
