The Joy of Macro.

In the spring of 2020 I bought my first dedicated macro lens—an older, used (and therefore less expensive) Minolta 100mm macro. I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Until then, I had never done any macro photography, and dipping my toe in that pool has been a joy.

I seem to have a particular affection for more abstract photos. Interesting colors or shapes or lighting often hold my interest, and getting up close with a macro lens can abstract many subjects, the potted plants from my balcony garden as an example.

I have found that lighting in particular can have this effect for macro photos, providing splashes of light that bring an unexpected interest to otherwise mundane subjects.

Or maybe it's just my own foible. But either way, my macro lens has provided me more than my money's worth in enjoyment.
