A enchente e a reconstrução-The flood and the reconstruction (Eng-Pt)

English

Hello friends! I hope you are all well.

After 6 days of heavy rain, on the 30th of November the sky fell over Santa Catarina.

Only today, a few days later, is it possible for me to sit down to write.

That day started with much more rain than the previous days.

I was taking pictures of people with umbrellas from the window of my house.

At the end of the afternoon, the streets already showed a sheet of running water.

At the beginning of the night everything overflowed.

The water entered the houses and dragged everything away.

I only managed to grab my backpack with the photographic equipment and cross the street in waist-deep water to a higher house where I was welcomed.

I lost everything. It was the most heard phrase the next morning.

With the sunlight it was possible to see the size of the damage.

The streets were rivers of mud and garbage, driftwood and cars and floating animals.

Luckily the rain gave a break for the waters to go down and with the sun at full power trying to recover something.

Personally, the most painful loss was my hard drives containing all my original photographic files (including backups).

I've already received donations of clothes and other things, but my story as a photographer has disappeared under water.

Now just on the memory card in my head.

Despite all this, in the midst of all this, I took some photographs to document it.

These are the ones I selected today.

There is no art here, no beauty.

Just the document of yet another tragedy.

There were dead and missing people until today.

And the rain came back hard after 2 days of truce.

Thank you for your attention, stay well, enjoy every moment and until next time.

Wow, i am devastated to hear about this. I have lost my photo archives more than once but never in such a tragic way. That would be the least of concerns. My prayers are with you guys!

Thanks so much for your words my friend. I agrre with you, lost my archives is the least of my concerns. There are many people in a worts situation. This is a neighborhood of poor people with limited resources and no support from the state. It's gonna be hard but people help each other. Soon we will stand up again.
