Por casualidad, Jeremías y yo llegamos a la cancha deportiva que está ubicada dentro del módulo policial de "La Carucieña". El sol estaba bien puesto a mitad de la mañana, la sorpresa es que ya había un grupo bien nutrido de jóvenes jugando al futbol y lo mejor es que del otro lado está ubicado un parque para niños dispuesto bajo la sombra de varios árboles de nim.
Definitivamente es una supercombinación: de un lado, mi pasatiempo favorito, el futbol como deporte, y del otro, el de mi hijo Jeremías, un parque con varias atracciones, entre estas un tobogán de aproximadamente 4 metros de alto con varias curvas y cargado de muchos colores.
By chance, Jeremías and I arrived at the sports field located inside the “La Carucieña” police station. The sun was high in the sky in the middle of the morning, and to our surprise, there was already a large group of young people playing soccer. Even better, on the other side of the field was a children's playground shaded by several neem trees.
It's definitely a great combination: on one side, my favorite pastime, soccer, and on the other, my son Jeremías' favorite, a park with several attractions, including a colorful slide approximately 4 meters high with several curves.
Estamos en pleno periodo vacacional, por tanto, disponíamos de tiempo para quedarnos. Aprovechamos para entrar, en realidad no sabíamos cómo era la mecánica del sitio, puesto que siempre pasábamos en transporte público y veíamos las instalaciones de lejos. Y ayer fue nuestro día, para realizar la primera de muchas visitas.
We are in the middle of the holiday season, so we had time to stay. We took the opportunity to go inside. We didn't really know how the place worked, since we always took public transportation and saw the facilities from afar. And yesterday was our day to make the first of many visits.
No es común en Venezuela que los parques públicos se conserven de buena manera. Es una de las cosas que siempre se ponen en la mesa, el mantenimiento de las obras y un poco más allá, que las mismas personas puedan dar un buen uso, cuidar los espacios, entre otros. Este en particular se ha conservado por un largo periodo desde su construcción. Asumo que el motivo es que comparte su localidad con el módulo policial. En verdad es una convergencia bastante interesante, en este caso, un parque, un campo de futbol y una sede de seguridad.
It is not common in Venezuela for public parks to be well maintained. It is one of the things that always comes up for discussion: the maintenance of public works and, beyond that, the fact that people themselves can make good use of them and take care of the spaces, among other things. This particular park has been well maintained for a long time since its construction. I assume the reason is that it shares its location with the police station. It is actually quite an interesting convergence, in this case, a park, a soccer field, and a security headquarters.
Lo cierto es que Jeremías tardó aproximadamente 10 minutos en conseguirse un compañero. Al principio había un niño aislado, pero de entrada no hicieron química, luego llegó una señora con sus dos hijos y esta vez sí se armó el grupo para correr por cada uno de los rincones que ofrece el parque.
The truth is that it took Jeremiah about 10 minutes to find a partner. At first, there was a lone child, but they didn't hit it off right away. Then a woman arrived with her two children, and this time the group got together to run around every corner of the park.
Por mi parte, me quedé sentado aprovechando los árboles frondosos que están ahí cerca y que me proporcionaban gran vista para disfrutar de los jóvenes que estaban jugando futbol. Definitivamente, los pies se me movían en dirección a la cancha, tenía muchas ganas de jugar, pero mi atuendo no era el adecuado para intentar hacer algo de deporte, así que me contuve por esta vez.
For my part, I remained seated, taking advantage of the leafy trees nearby that provided me with a great view to enjoy watching the young people playing soccer. My feet were definitely moving in the direction of the field; I really wanted to play, but my attire was not suitable for attempting any kind of sport, so I held back this time.
Este es un lado de la ciudad que poco frecuentaba, pero en la actualidad varias circunstancias de mi vida me están guiando para estos lados. Así que estoy seguro de que pronto voy a volver, amén.
This is a part of town I didn't visit very often, but right now, various circumstances in my life are leading me in this direction. So I'm sure I'll be back soon, amen.
