Today I played basketball at the park with @alexbuffone and there was some real controversy about a rule.
So the way that we play is that if the ball does not hit the rim on an offensive possession, the defensive rebounder has the ability to shoot without the need to bring the ball back outside the three point line. If the ball hits the rim, you must take it out before being able to shoot.
So @alexbuffone went up for a shot and I blocked it. Then without taking the ball back out, I put the shot up and scored a basket.
He proceeded to whine for 5 minutes about how I needed to take the ball back outside the three point line because I blocked it... The ball never hit the rim. That is the rule. If the ball does not hit the rim, there is no need to reset possession.
His logic was that it is ok if you miss the rim yourself, but if the opponent blocks the shot that is supposed to make a difference when in both situations the ball does not touch the rim...
What is your opinion on this? I think the kid is a goofball. Let me know in the comments.
P.S. I won both of our matches today... Just saying.
