Good evening everyone!
In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Dramaturgy from the japanese artist Eve.
Eazy-er Said That Dunn: Eazy
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Eazy-er Said That Dunn from the legendary gangsta rapper Eazy-E.
For my choice today, I'm going to talk again about one of the genres I've been most passionate about lately: I'm talking about none other than old-school hip-hop. My experience with the genre began in my early teens, when I was playing Grand Theft Auto San Andreas multiplayer with some friends in Roleplay mode.
In this mode, you have to play a character as if it were real life, so a group of friends and I were playing a group of gang members from a poor neighborhood in San Andreas. Since we had to get into character and for our own enjoyment, we used to play a variety of old-school rap songs, such as artists like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Ice Cube.
Although I liked the music, during those times I hadn't been able to connect with it that much, because I didn't have a platform with a playlist created to listen to that music, so over time I lost the habit. Everything changed when, bored on Netflix, I started watching a documentary-style film that tells the story of one of the most important bands in the history of the entire genre: N.W.A (Niggas With Attitudes).
The movie Straight Outta Compton explains how the members of N.W.A came together to form the group. My biggest surprise was that several artists I knew from before had been part of this band, and that's what caught my attention the most. In addition to that, it tells how the band's financier, Eazy-E, who was not originally going to be part of the creative group, was encouraged by other members to rap a song and ended up becoming one of the band's main artists.
The group's decline began when Ice Cube had problems with their manager over the small percentage of profits he was receiving for each album and concert. This led to several conflicts between members of the group, who dedicated several songs to each other, such as Real Niggaz, which was answered by Ice Cube's iconic song No Vaseline.
Ice Cube wasn't the only one unhappy with the situation with their manager. Dr. Dre left the group shortly after and dedicated a song to both his former friend Eazy-E and Ice Cube. This latest departure ended up completely dissolving the group, so they continued to operate as solo artists.
Of the three most important members (Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E), the latter is the one I like the least, but I can't deny that despite his short solo career, he released great hits such as Eazy-er Said That Dunn, Real Mutthaphuckkin G, It's On, No More ?'s, and Gimmie That Nutt. After his death shortly thereafter from a sexually transmitted disease, Eazy-E ended up becoming the world's leading exponent of gangsta rap.
