A Quick Introduction To Playing Rising Star and Earn Starbits

in Rising Star Game3 years ago (edited)

I got a couple of questions about how to play Rising Star so I thought I would put together a quick "How To" guide to get you started on your musical career.

What Is Rising Star

Rising Star is a combination of card collecting and task based band management simulator. By doing gigs you earn experience and STARBITS (a Hive token). As you do more gigs and earn more experience you will level up and be able to play bigger and bigger gigs and earn more and more STARBITS. The goal of the game is to grow your band from lowly Busker (someone playing for tips) to Mega Superstars.

How to Sign Up

Rising Star is on the Hive Blockchain so if you already have a HIVE account all you will need to do is signup for a Rising Star account too. I would appreciate it if you would use my referral link to signup if you haven't already signed up.

If you don't have a Hive account, you can get one for free at hive.io

Quick Overview of the Main Screen

The image above is what Rising Star looks like on my laptop. I haven't played Rising Star on mobile but it looks to be designed to be mobile friendly.

Main Menu - The main menu is located on the top left of the screen.

Using the main menu you can (in order from left to right)

  • Visit the home page
  • Do a gig (this is where you will spend most of your time)
  • Your card collection and access to the marketplace
  • View your achievements
  • View your rankings
  • Read a very good guide on how to play
  • Link to Hive.io
  • Invite to join their Discord channel (recommended, you might even snag some free cards here)
  • Link to their Facebook page.

Buy A Card With At Least 10 Fans

Once you have signed up, you will need to buy (or otherwise acquire) a musician card with at least 10 fans to get started. Ten fans is the minimum number needed to do any gigs on Rising Star. The more fans your band has the higher the level of gigs you will be able to do.

To buy a card off the marketplace, you need to click on the cards in the main menu and then on "your collection" on the pull down menu. That will bring up a screen showing all the available cards that can be purchased opened to people.

The grayed out cards are cards you don't own. If you own a card it will be in color like the Buster card and the Dorris card above. To buy a card off the market place just click on the card and then marketplace to get a list of cards for sale.

A perfect card for a beginner who wants to start out on the cheap would be something like a Dorris. She has 10 fans and will let you get started so you can see if it is the kind of game you want to play. And she is pretty cheap, I saw a couple on the marketplace for 1 HIVE or less.

Be sure to look for the best price. They do not seem to be sorted in any order and the best price may be anywhere in the list. There is a wide range in prices so don't just buy the first one you see (or worse get discouraged and quit).

Lets Look At A Card Closer

The most important stats for any card is:
Fans - The number of fans this card contributes to the band. All of the fans from all of your cards are combined to determine which gigs you have unlocked.
Luck - The amount of luck this card contributes to the band, The more luck you have, the more skill points your band will gain from music lessons and the higher the chance you may win a reward card after a gig.
Skill - The amount of skill points this card adds to the band. Skill is used to offset ego which I will touch briefly later. Ego, and skill, are not important until you have over 1000 fans, so it probably isn't important for a beginner.
Income modifier - this is not used in the game yet, but may impact STARBIT earnings in future versions.

When you are first starting out (more accurately, below 1000 fans) you probably only need to worry about the number of fans your band has.

Doing A Gig

Ok, we have purchased a card with at least 10 fans and are ready to do a gig. To do a gig, click the mission icon which looks like a stop watch. That will bring up the main page for the game.

This screen has a lot going on. Says lets take it in parts.

On the left you can see your cards that make up your band. I only have my Headbanging Singer as the front man. I haven't unlocked any of the other band member positions yet so I can't assign those. The card you bought should already be added to the band, if not, click on big card then select your card and assign it.

Above your two bands are two scales one for Ego, and my energy. Each gig uses a portion of your energy. You can see I have 19 energy. Energy slowly refills with time and you may get lucky and get rewarded with energy boosts after a mission. You can ignore Ego until you have 1000+ fans.

Next to the band is the map of the zones. Each zone represents a series of gigs that your band can do once it meets the requirements. When you first start only the Home Town gigs will be unlocked. As you progress, you will unlock additional zones. You can see in the image above I have unlocked the second zone "Local Gig Circuit".

Under the zone map are links to the music lessons that you will need to do build skill. Special Missions where you can earn other HIVE tokens. I recommend you stick to doing regular gigs at first so that you can level up and unlock higher level gigs.

Next to the zone map is the list of gigs that are available in the selected zone.

When you are getting started you will only be able to able to do the "Illegal Busking" gig. Click on "Illegal Busking" and then click "Start" your first gig. Once you hit start the gig begins and the start button is replaced with count down to when the gig is over.

You earn experience and STARBITS with every gig you do. But every gig also drains some of you energy and if you have 1000 fans or more will add to your ego.

As a new player you need to keep doing the Illegal Busking gig over and over until you are high enough level to do an Open Mix Night. After doing several of the same gigs per day you will get a warning that your fans are getting board and your the amount of STARBITS earned is decreased for the day. Early on STARBIT earnings aren't as important as experence so I recommend you just keep doing gigs and earning experience until you have unlocked more gigs.

Ok, what was supposed to be a "Quick Guide" has turned into a 1000 word post but I think this is enough information to get you off and running on your own musical career with Rising Star.
