11 days ago, I put 12 Steem OG seeds into these 4 pots. (I promise this is not a math lesson!) Tonight I've got 6 healthy seedlings. This hybrid cannabis strain is fun to grow, and I'm hoping I've got a couple real winners here. By Christmas this little indoor garden will feature a couple large stinky trees!
First I'll show the 4 pots as they were last night:
And now the same 4 pots as they are tonight:
Aside from another 24 hours of growth, you'll notice I've removed the 5 smallest seedlings. These runts weren't showing the proper formation or quick growth I like to see.
That's one benefit of planting more seeds than you intend to grow out... you can thin the less desirable plants. Some growers would gasp at the idea of killing small plants simply because they aren't perfect, but when you have enough seeds to do it, why not? As far as we know, plants have no consciousness and can't feel pain or suffering. And the other consideration for some people is cost, but I grew all these seeds myself, and can do so again. Some growers pay $10 a seed (and up) for good genetics, and that's justifiable. But they can also be produced for the cost of some dirt and your time.
Stay tuned to the DRutter channel to see the remaining 6 Steem OG seedlings compete for the 4 semi-final positions : )
Grow in peace.

Looking great brother! Those are some of the healthiest seedlings I've ever seen. You know they are thriving when those initial seed pop leaves stay vibrantly healthy like yours are :)
They definitely do grow fast, especially once they develop two or three nodes.
I don't stress thinning out the crop, and agree with the logic of growing more than intended to grow. I shouldn't have bragged about my high germination success rate because I only have 4 popped out of 12, and at this point they should be all sprouted I think, so I might even need to plant more, which sets me back some. I haven't decided yet. 4 is not very many and the odds of 4 females are probably low, (despite my last lucky grow)
I have all different kinds of ideas when it comes to this topic of plants feeling pain. I know we think they don't but idk.. sometimes I think they do, but that it's only significant when they are fully grown and have a developed root system. Maybe the way they feel it is different and there is no comprehension because they have no brain, I really don't know. Science says no, but science is never settled, or it's not science, right? :D (Unless a process can be repeated enough times with the same results. but there could be other aspects of the science that are still not fully understood or discovered.)
That doesn't stop us from popping tomatoes of the vine and eating them... What about lettuce...? those things suffer a brutal death when we consume, and so many other raw vegetables of course. We just have to put things into perspective.
If it's too bothersome for a person to kill a seedling once in a while for the greater good, they will certainly struggle with growing cannabis :D
Great post bro, and congrats on the well deserved Curie!
Thanks, although I'm handing out that much in votes to your comments every few days, so it's not exactly a windfall amount! Your mushroom post has $19 already, more than my entire post with the Curie vote... in fact all your posts are higher, even your new account's posts! So congratulations goes to YOU :P

Thank you bro,
There is no question you are my number one comment supporter and I very much appreciate it. Also, I wouldn't be offended if you didn't upvote all them, because I know it can be hard to manage VP. I struggle to manage it, in fact it's a bit of a nightmare for me. I feel it reduces my ability to read posts and engage because I just don't want to comment on someone's post and not reward it, to me that's not proper and defeats the purpose of what we're doing here. I know there's varying perspectives on this.
In the past I was working out effective methods to reward engagement, and I know my plans were sound, but then I get called a profiteering piece of shit with zero regard for what I do overall with my resources. Seems some people are a little narrow minded in their ability to see the big picture. So my plans get messed up in that regard.
I wish I knew why your posts aren't making much with all your consistency and very nice posts. It's baffling, and I can only wonder if you pissed some people off somehow in the past? I do know that happens with some people around here whether they deserved it or not, and of course whether someone deserves some form of treatment or lack thereof, is a matter of opinion and personal perspective. I hope the large curators will take a look at what you are doing here and start giving more support on your posts.
I like to think like this:
If something I'm doing isn't working, then maybe I need to tailor it a little differently so that maybe I will have better success. This is a very simple concept that I know you get, but maybe you're stubborn like me sometimes? :P
I'm usually waiting on recharge and am always days behind with comment votes and posts. I know I'm behind on yours too. Trying to manage 3D printing work I'm doing, inboxes flooding with people I'm talking to, comments like this taking an hour to compose. It's hard af to manage time on the internet. This is a full time job working overtime for less than minimum wage lol. But I would rather work for less and have it be enjoyable and things I'm passionate about, over working for more as an unhappy slave.
I've been meaning to look into another way to reward engagement and you helped me find the !LUV
Keep pushing bro, you got this.
Your comments and curation are excellent, no doubt there. Thanks for helping me out and I'm happy to keep on helping you out as well. Let's keep building : )
I try my best. With more engagement comes more difficulties in rewarding everyone. So sometimes I gotta send tips, and !LUV
Heheh yeah. It helps if you have more money, like I do. When you keep spending it, you have less to reward others with. I've never spent a cent of mine, so I'm rewarding you and my other friends at max value... which ups your income, allowing you to either spend more, or save more. The more of us with money, the more of us that will MAKE money. But I think most people spend theirs, and have little to reward others with, and the cycle goes on. Just my current thinking.
EDIT: As you know, I'm about to spend 1000 of mine, so soon I won't be able to say I've never spent any. But I'll still have like 17k, all of it earned through content creation.
Yep, took out 400 Hive recently so that I wouldn't starve. Worked my ass off for it too. Hard times we're living in.
I understand the perspective with saving and spending as little as possible. Sometimes I see it as the right move. I probably will not continue giving out as much in tips as I have been lately, but making new connections is also important, and tips are a nice show of character in my opinion. It's either that or only vote my friends that I know 100% all the time and then their perspective might become "he's a circle jerking asshole who doesn't care about community."
I've had those accusations thrown my way before in places like LEO, even though they specifically chose the week where I upvoted myself the most to use the stats against me, negating everything I do on Hive, with intent to increase my stake to help my buddies, but hey... Everyone has a different perspective, and many are non trusting by nature.
EDIT: Correction.. POB, but I'm sure the same cowards were stalking me there too... I bet I was even voting those coward stalkers at times.

Hi drutter,

Thank you so much for your manual curation. I'm honoured!
I’m always so nervous to transplant when their so close like that. More power to you bro! I need to get one new soil soon
Yeah that would be a tough transplant! My strategy here though is to just pull the unwanted seedlings leaving the best in each of 4 pots.
I Like stinky trees for xmas🎅😂
