I used to live in Colorado near some pockets of old Chinese migration during early USA railroad construction. There are still opium poppies all over the place there, even in people's front yards as an ornamental, even though I think it may be technically be illegally. I never believed they were opium poppies until a friend and I sliced one and smoked the harvest.
