Music and fashion have similar influence in the society. The two are somehow interconnected and used together to portray somany things and to find too promote culture.

In most fashion settings, music is always at the background to amplify the meaning of what is going on.

Most of the fashion parade I have watched, there has always been music playing for the contestants to display their outfit to the audience.

For a moment imagine there isn't music in the picture, I believe the entire activity would be boring, even the contestants wouldn't be motivated.

Music and fashion are connected in so many ways and I will be talking about a few below.

1 . Music and fashion can be used as a medium of communication. Today, in the music industry fashion is one of the trending things. Each of those artists dresses they way they do for a reason.

If you observe certain music videos closely, you will discover that sometimes, the way the artist and the dancers dress is somehow part of the message in the song.

They dress according to what they sing to make their audience better understand their messages.

2 . Means of identity: there is no cultural activity that you would attend and not see the people dress in their respective traditional attires and sing in their native languages.

The attires are often uniquely made and they way they are worn is always unique to the people, so, by mere seeing someone in that kind of outfit we can tell where that person came from.

4 . Promoting culture: A lot of artists are fond of using their traditional attires in their videos, most Nigerian artists do these things, an example is Yemi Alade, most of the outfits in her music videos are a representation of the African and Yoruba culture.

Dressing that way tells the world about where she is coming from and also preserves her culture. Through the music video, many years to come people who will watch it will see the attire and remember the culture.

5 . Music and fashion also reflect trends and eras: there is always a kind of trend that goes with every era in both fashion and music. If you observe closely, in the 90’s the way people dress and the pattern of their music is different from what we are having in our day.

By mere looking at an outfit and listening to a song, it's very easy for one to tell which era the song and the music belongs to.

The way we dress nowadays is totally different from the way people dressed back then, and the way the next generation will dress and sing will be different from what we are having in our day.

6 . Music and fashion also defines a person: there's a common say that “The way you dress, is the way you will be addressed.” That qoute has some measure of truth in it.

The way people choose their outfits sometimes tells the kind of people they are, if you see a gangster, you won't need anyone to interpret to you that he/she is a gangster, the outfit alone will say it all.

The kind of songs people listen to also says much about who they are, someone emotional is often identified by love, sad and emotional songs.

Music and fashion speak and their voices are loud enough for anyone sensitive to decipher their meanings.
