When I was still a kid, I used to imagine myself being successful in my chosen field. I thought that life will be easier when I get older, and I could not wait for it to happen before. But now that I am on my early 20s, I am already feeling the pressure of being an adult.
I graduated from college last year, on the month of August. And it is when everything began to be challenging on my end. Aside from the pressure of getting a decent job after college, I overthink a lot about whether I will be successful one day or not. And last October 2023, I landed on a job position that made me discover a new character inside me.
I started applying for a job on the month of September, and I got hired a month after as a Customer Service Representative (also known as call center agent). It means that my job responsibility is to answer queries through calls coming from the United States. I had to relocate here in Pampanga because of that opportunity and I did not want it to slip away, so I took the risk of being away from home.
The workplace was located at SM City Clark in Angeles City. And since it's a BPO Industry, I worked on a shifting schedule. I had experienced working early in the morning, and also going on-duty at graveyard shift. Challenging, right? But I had to do it to gain experience. And day by day, I started to discover new characters inside me.
I met the FLEXIBLE CHERRY.
During the training days, I learned quickly even though I was a first-timer in this kind of industry. I also met different people in all ages that I had to work with as a trainee. And one of the most essential detail about me meeting my flexible version is when I learned to adjust in my environment, job responsibility, and people around me.
I have been SENTIMENTAL.
Since I was away from home, I met the version of me that became sentimental over simple things - and this might sound cheesy to some of you. When I was already packing my things before travelling to Pampanga, I grabbed a mug that has my brother's name in it. The reason is, I wanted to bring stuffs that have special values to me, so I could be motivated to go to work even though I will be missing home for a while.
I learned to be MORE INDEPENDENT.
My friends already see me as an independent woman, and I had acknowledged that description for years now. But being hired on a job where I had to relocate made me even more independent. How? I can sit anywhere alone. I can learn things by myself. And I could enjoy my own company, so I won't have to rely on someone.
Also, at the age of 22, I wanted to try living on my own to try whether I could do it or not, especially when I used to be a Mama's girl.
They say that everything you experience in life will surely give you the best lessons, and one of the most significant changes I embraced recently is working for my growth in career and self-discovery. And little by little, I am starting to gain a lot since then.

You are doing very well in life Cherry. Wag mo na lang masyadong isipin yung future, focus ka muna sa work mo and mag-ipon ka. Gusto ko din mag-apply ng BPO after I will graduate pero sana maging Flexible Sydney din ako katulad mo. 🙏
Medyo challenging ang BPO Industry, Syd. But malaki talaga sahod. Not for me though. Office work pa rin ang hinanap ko after ng experience ko sa BPO. You can try it! May training and different phases naman before you will be endorsed to the production floor.
I see. Parang mahirap nga talaga ang BPO, sana hiyang ako sa ganyang trabaho. 🙏
What an experience!!! Transitioning into an adult could be challenging. But I am happy you got some roles that helped you probably manage expenses on your own. And those characters you developed such as being dependent on yourself are really crucial.
The more your age, the more you will get better and I believe you will be successful with the right mindset.
You are doing really great in there Charmy Charmy, in your journey you'll surely gain more experiences in there, and you'll grow even more. Good Luck to that. Being independent woman need a lot of courage, and that's what I don't have ಥ‿ಥ
Congrats on landing your first job after your graduation. The transition from student to working life is a big one especially when you have start life in another city away from home. There's lots to learn, no doubts mistakes will be made but the most important thing is to learn from these mistake to become better at your job. All the best
