Este año pasó de verdad rápido y cuando me detengo a mirar un poco atrás, no puedo creer que haya estado en tantos lugares distintos desde que empecé este viaje nómade. La primera vez que hice un intercambio de trabajo por alojamiento no estaba segura de como funcionaría, por lo que solo me había comprometido a ir dos semanas. Al final, la experiencia fue muy positiva y terminé extendiendo mi estadía durando dos meses. Luego, conseguir un lugar para estar mientras trabajo y viajo sin tener que pagar con dinero por él, solo con mi tiempo y algo de trabajo, fue una modalidad que me gustó. Así fue como llegué a este sexto alojamiento, en donde estuve viviendo, trabajando y viajando durante tres semanas 😃.
In August, my main economic activity was still Hive, so I could take my work with me wherever I went. After all the previous times when work-for-housing exchanges had worked well, I felt I could go anywhere without any problems. My country is very big and there are a lot of hostels that work with this ‘volunteer’ modality, so you just have to choose one, ask if this is possible and move there. For me, the main purpose of this is to be in a new place to be able to explore the surroundings in my free time 😃.
En el mes de Agosto, mi actividad económica principal todavía era Hive, por lo que podía llevar conmigo mi trabajo a donde sea. Después de todas las veces anteriores en las que los intercambios de trabajo por alojamiento habían funcionado bien, ya me sentía con la posibilidad de ir a cualquier lugar sin problemas. Mi país es muy grande y hay un montón de hospedajes que funcionan con esta modalidad de "voluntarios", asi que solo hay que elegir alguno, preguntar si esto es posible y moverse hasta allá. Para mí, el principal objetivo de esto es estar en un lugar nuevo para poder explorar los alrededores en el tiempo libre 😃.
For this sixth exchange, I chose a hostel in the capital of Catamarca, a province I had yet to see. This province is considered not so touristy, so it is somewhat difficult to get around without your own vehicle, but I was still happy to get to know the capital. In my search for ‘free’ accommodation I found this hostel in the centre, and after talking to the owner, we arranged a three-week exchange where I would have to take care of the cleaning and the reception of guests. This was something I had already done in the other hostels, so it would be nothing new 😃.
Para este sexto intercambio, elegí un hostel en la capital de Catamarca, una provincia que me faltaba conocer. Esta provincia es considerada no tan turística, por lo que es algo difícil recorrerla sin vehículo propio, pero igualmente me conformaba con conocer su capital. En mi búsqueda de hospedaje "gratis" encontré este hostel en el centro, y después de hablar con el dueño, arreglamos un intercambio de tres semanas en donde tendría que ocuparme de la limpieza y de la recepción de huéspedes. Esto era algo que yo ya había hecho en los otros hosteles, así que no sería nada nuevo 😃.
What I didn't know at the time was that in that month of the year the season in Catamarca was very, very, very low, so there were hardly any strangers hanging around the city. As I said, this province is not so popular for tourism and that was quite noticeable throughout my stay. In the 21 days I was in Catamarca, I only shared my room for 2 days with a girl, I met a married couple for one night and then another guy one night, who stayed in another room. Those were all the guests I saw in the three weeks, so most of the time I had the hostel to myself 😃.
Lo que no sabía en ese momento era que en ese mes del año la temporada en Catamarca era muy, muy, muy baja, por lo que casi no había nadie extraño dando vueltas en la ciudad. Como dije, esta provincia no es tan elegida para el turismo y eso se notó bastante en toda mi estadía. En los 21 días que estuve en Catamarca, solo compartí mi habitación durante 2 días con una chica, me crucé con un matrimonio durante una noche y luego otro chico una noche, quien se hospedó en otra habitación. Esos fueron todos los huéspedes que vi en las tres semanas, por lo que la mayor parte del tiempo tuve el hostel para mí sola 😃.
This hostel was like a big house with a large living room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and dining room, a patio and a big terrace. During the day it was beautiful, but at night it was terrifying. The owner was a very lonely person and although he lived in a room outside the hostel, we had almost no interaction. At first I was quite bored by this because a big part of what I like to do in these exchanges is to socialise with the guests and there it was never possible, but as the days went by I had to use other techniques to meet people outside the hostel, such as Couchsurfing or Tinder 😂.
Este hostel era como una casona muy grande con un gran living, tres habitaciones, dos baños, cocina y comedor, un patio y una gran terraza. De día era hermoso, pero de noche era terrorífico. El dueño era una persona muy solitaria y aunque vivía en una habitación por fuera del hostel, no tuvimos casi nada de interacción. Al principio me aburría bastante esto porque gran parte de lo que me gusta hacer en estos intercambios es sociabilizar con los huéspedes y ahí nunca fue posible, pero con el pasar de los días tuve que usar otras técnicas para conocer gente fuera de ahí, como Couchsurfing o Tinder 😂.
As for the work itself, in this exchange I worked 5 days a week, 5 hours in exchange for accommodation and breakfast. This saved me $15 per day, which was the cost of accommodation there. The money I didn't spend on accommodation I used to go on trips around the city and also on a short trip to the interior of the province. Although I felt a bit lonely several times during those days, I still enjoyed my stay and loved getting to know a new province. I was also surprised at how beautiful Catamarca is and can now recommend it as a travel destination in Argentina 💕.
En cuanto al trabajo en sí, en este intercambio trabajé 5 días a la semana, 5 horas a cambio del alojamiento y el desayuno. Esto me hizo ahorrar $15 por día que era lo que salía el hospedaje en ese lugar. El dinero que no gasté en alojamiento lo usé para ir a paseos alrededor de la ciudad y también a una pequeña escapada al interior de la provincia. A pesar de que varias veces me sentí un poco sola esos días, igualmente disfruté mi estadía y me encantó conocer una provincia nueva. También me sorprendí de lo hermosa que es Catamarca y ahora puedo recomendarla para que la elijan como destino de viaje en Argentina 💕.

That is really a great benefit that you get there! I want to travel to some places but due to my regular work, I can not! And most of the weekend I had get out very early for the long-distant destination, many places I have visited that take 4 hours journey and I have make sure that the returning public transport is available otherwise a lot of Taxi fare is needed that is a large amount for a student. Enjoy your trip to the new places, don't be lonely, just go out at beautiful place and take a long brathe, you will be healed completely. Have nice day!
