Nagoya Castle Painting - Day 3 🏯

I often get asked “Rob, what’s your favourite country you’ve travelled to?” It’s a difficult one to answer, I can more easily name my top 3. But Japan has most of the time been my favourite (I’ve been 3 times), and that’s what I usually tell people. I had many incredible things happen to me there, and there was so much I liked about the people and the place. On my first visit, it was my first time trying out couchsurfing in a foreign country, and I stayed with families and friendly Japanese people, some who couldn’t speak a word of English, and it all worked out really well.

I painted this study yesterday from my own reference photo of Nagoya Castle, which I took on my last visit in 2016. I found these samurai castles fascinating, I wanted to explore all of them, and Japan has so many!

This one in Nagoya was very impressive, if you visit one day, go check it out.

You picked a good view to paint :) and yeh there seems to be a few samurai castles around there, might take you a while to explore all of them XD Can you speak Japanese?

@ryivhnn all around the castle I could have painted :) I am not there at the moment, It's a painting I did from a photo I took on my last trip to Japan. I'm going through my travel archives at the moment to paint from during the lockdown. I can say a few things, ima nanji desuka? haha

There's so many things I haven't learned yet XD So I had to Googlate that one.

What time is it? CLOCK SPIDER TIME!

@ryivhnn correct! haha It was one of the first things I was taught in Japanese outside of hello and goodbye! haha

My vocabulary is bigger than my daughter's but she's learned important things like how to swear/call someone a piece of s*** and how to say "let's eat" XD she's trying to learn how to say "thank you for the meal" and I was like AARGH I'M JUST LEARNING THAT ONE BUT OF COURSE I CAN'T REMEMBER IT XD

That's an interesting one to be taught first up. Always figured the important first things besides greetings and swearing was learning how to say "I don't speak/understand [whatever language it is]", "where is [various useful buildings]" and words for food xD
