RE: The Mallard Steam Train - World's Fastest Steam Locomotive

in DTube4 years ago

I think it used to travel along the Arlesey line and there used to be a pub called The Mallard right by the tracks. Like many others it has shut down now, but I used to go there a fair bit. The train was a great piece of engineering.

We still get the odd steam train passing here. I guess they may go this way from London to York.

This is the Sir Nigel Gresly passing a few years ago. Got that sloped front like the Mallard.

Hi Steve, yep the Mallard was one of a class of locomotive that were known for their speed.
It's amazing to think that all these years later that the Mallard still holds the world steam engine record. 👍

I guess it was the pinnacle of that technology as steam died off fairly quickly after diesel and electric took over.
