It's a Track and Trace app. Once you've installed the app, you'll get an alert if it detects you have been in close contact with another user of the app who has tested positive for coronavirus. You can then self isolate so you don’t pass the virus on. It is purely voluntary. I've never bothered. It's had its flaws.
