Flooded Weekend

Rain,...flood? I prefer sun!

I could listen to Water Music composed by Handel while writing this Sunday rant and wish to have a boat to use it as a vehicle to go to the street. At first glance, a perfect scenery, streets covered with water...new forming lakes are adorning the space between the houses. Not just streets, but also some houses received this spectacle, like the garden of the house I am stuck in. Seriously, I would need a small boat or some waterproof boots to meet the rest of the people in this town. These days, while it was still sunny, I was taking photos of this very spoiled cat and of the big garden, with a lot of different fruits and vegetables that are growing in it. Pears, apricots, figs, watermelons, plums, strawberries, grapes, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers ... Now the vegetables are under water and the trunks of the fruit trees are just emerging with its treetops. All this water thing started yesterday night, a bit before midnight when the second big storm hit. The third one that happened today brought so much water that it stayed in the way described in the beginning of this paragraph. A big lake.

I feel safe in this chair.

So we are stuck inside, checking out every now and then the level of the water outside and also in the lower part of the house. There was 20cm of water in those lower level rooms, I measured now the height from the floor to the upper line mark that the water left before it started to go down a bit. That is a good sign, probably tomorrow it will be better and the majority of the water will go away if the sky decides not to send a new heavy storm and rain. Then some days of cleaning are waiting for me after the mess. It is not bad, anyway, I don't have a lot of other stuff to do as currently I am experiencing a very simple style of living. The next photo would represent in the best possible way that feeling:

Life is so "complicated"

Although, that feeling was before this rain-flood situation happened. And before I saw various very nice, green coloured deep scratches along the entire length of our car yesterday afternoon. Plus, dents in both doors on the left side of it. I am not able to describe what was my dominant reaction. I was upset, surprised and angry. What was that? How? I parked in the parking lot in front of my parents' house and that is how I found the car! After some detective work, we found out who is the owner of a green car that is sometimes parked near their house. A young man, the son of a neighbour who just made his driving licence last year. When I reached him after talking to his mom, friends and employer, he said he was in hurry and after he hit our car, he just drove away. Oh no, no way you can just leave that way! They will have to fund the cost of the repair.

Seriously, he just went away?

Now, I am calmer. I tried to relax reading some National Geographic articles from the magazines I found in the house. Started to write this rant. While I was writing, the water went even more down, but around three-quarters of the garden is still under water. I also remembered the beautiful moments I spent the last few days with my nieces playing the piano together, until very late in the evening (they both play the piano). We found some scores where we can play together and it was fun. Also, during this writing time a migraine kind of feeling started to show its presence. I know, we will have some days to spend together. I hope at least the migraine likes these meetings we have. I don't. And I hear again the sound of the rain. I will really need that boat... at least to save this spoiled cat :D

Oh wow, I had no idea the heavy rains reached all the way to where you are! Of course it's all quite relative. Sure, your parents' garden is flooded, but the house still stands! When you were describing the green scratches on your car, I could just see some entire trees floating by, bumping into your car, scratching and denting it up... kinda like those images from the Rhineland. A horrible sight! In comparison, I was almost glad to see it was just the neighbor kid. This way at least you can make him responsible for the damage.

Yes, it was just the neighbor kid. Luckily no trees floating on the streets, there were some smaller branches and other things floating, but not that German scenery here.

This is not my parents' house, they live in another, higher street. They were just looking the rain through the window but didn't need a boat 😁

Same here. The rain has been relentless. We had to do a lot of driving in it the past few days, today was the wettest.

Two days more to go with these conditions here, as far as I saw now ⛈️

Actually, I have nothing against rain :) (if it is not haevy rain) but the flooded garden is the thing I don't like to see 🛶 🛶

Could certainly use a small canoe it seems sometimes lol

One day a few weeks ago we got 5 inches of rain from Elsa I think it was. All that in a single day lol was insane!

Yesterday was another intense one. Puras mother has been with us since last Sunday and, other than one day in NC and currently in TN, it's rained everywhere we've been.

Feels like the vacation in the movie Home Alone when they went to Florida but it just rained while they were there lol.

Better start a garden to capitalize on the rain!

Some crazy rain that’s going on around the world right now. Seems the east coast of the US and Europe are getting quite a few rain storms. One of the good things about it is the gardens are watering themselves right now! Lol. Ours is doing great because of the rain and I don’t have to curse that I forgot to water the plants anymore. I would enjoy quite a bit more sunshine though, not going to lie!

It’s tough when the water gets into the house, was it in the living space or do you have a basement? I don’t know how some places are built so not sure.

Too much watering 😆

I didn't want to go deeper in the water, but further in the garden it was really a deep lake of mud and water 😐

This is an old, 100+ years house. No basement exactly because it is already in a low part of the town, so the avoid floods in the basement. But one part of the house is lower, I just used it to storage not worthy stuff when I used to live here about a decade ago. Now I came to spend a part of my summer here 😁

Memorable holidays it will be 😉

I saw on the news about the heavy rainfalls in Germany, looks like the storm spread all over Europe to you as well , its absolutely awful. Hopefully the damage at your place isn't too bad.

That guy!!! Being in a hurry doesn't mean you damage other people's vehicle, its just downright stupidity, and damn well he needs to pay for it!!!!

That'll be a lesson he learned young and hopefully won't repeat again once his wallet gets hit!

Hopefully he will learn. I almost felt sorry for him :D I asked why he didn't come in to say what happened... He showed himself shy, but now I can't recall if he even said he was sorry 😐 just that he was in hurry... I think he was scared to say, and hoped I will not find him 😆

I have the appointment tomorrow to take the car to the garage where it will be repaired. His mother agreed they will pay.

Yeah let's hope that he was shy and nervous. When I got in my first accident I was scared and couldn't really talk lol

I saw it too. I am now in Serbia, but the heavy rainfalls hit here too. The damage in our case is just some insignificant stuff from the space where the water entered and the vegetable that was growing in the garden.

The guy is 19. He really has to learn to take responsibility... I suppose he was scared to say + a bit ignorant. And he hoped I will not find him 😆
