Feeling Guilty For Not Being Productive .:. Late Night Blogging

in Rant, Complain, Talk15 hours ago

On busy weekdays, it's hard to lift your head and enjoy the outdoors or nature... While I do share "nature stuff" here on HIVE, I don't get to go out and do it as often as I'd like... Recently, I read a post by @artemisnorth.com that hit me hard, as I could relate a lot... It's about feeling guilty after doing something that we like.

not a bad environment to whine 🙂

As I was working almost my whole life as an entrepreneur, building my own business(es), and hustling all around... The thing that I learned fastest was that "You are your WORST boss!" Btw, I did have one 2 jobs while studying, where I had a good boss, and a very bad boss, so I know what I'm talking about... I am a much worse boss to myself... lol...

Working for yourself means that YOU HAVE TO do all the work... There is no excuse: "someone else is gonna do it." Or, picking issues that you want to do, and skipping those ugly ones that suck... Sometimes you have creative hours, when you enjoy what you do, and sometimes, you have boring, repetitive work to do, because it brings money, or could bring money... It's a lot of COULD and WOULD, especially when you try to BUILD something... No income at the beginning, just expenses, with a chance/promise of "future income"... It can happen, or it can't...

IMG_20260218_120856.jpg

Not sure when I'm struggling more, during the week when I'm sitting in front of this thing 12 hours per day, or during the weekends when I try to relax and feel guilty of (trying) doing nothing... I mean, having some quality free time...

Speaking of 12 hours, at the end of (almost) every day, I have a feeling that I didn't do anything productive! That's probably the worst part of the process... Again, guilt... And to be honest, sometimes I really ask myself, "Where the f&ck did I spend those 12 hours?"

And then, there are days like this one... When I spent almost the whole day outside... Still having my laptop in my backpack, but turned off... Having it for "just in case"... I got that ugly habit while I was running a hosting business and had to react to EVERY issue promptly, in the first 5-10 min of an issue... I suppose I still got "the ticks" from that...

Back to nature... As it's one of the rare things that gives me peace, and calms me down... And there are animals... Like this pigeon... When I was a kid, we had a lot of different animals: a dog, cats, parrots, ducks, chickens... Somehow, animals can FEEL when you are struggling, when you are scared, or hurt... They come closer to you, and sometimes, by just enjoying their company, you start feeling better...

On my walk to the Faro d'Albir, at one of the breaks, this pigeon was my buddy...

Finally, my new buddy got a bit more confidence in me and came so close that I could make this photo... Unfortunately for him, I didn't have any food to share, and I suppose he was there for that... Or, maybe it just wanted to pose for you! 😍

On my way back to the car, I took this photo... To not forget how beautiful this place is, and how it will be there for me when I want to relax... Maybe my pigeon-buddy will be there too... We will see...

On that day, my wife had some rehearsals with another musician, so we had some time together, and the other time, I was walking solo... We decided to have a "tupper lunch" on the beach, which was probably the best decision of the day... As the rehearsal took place in Benidorm, we hit the nearest beach and enjoyed sunshine which lasted almost exactly as long as our lunch... In half an hour, the sky that you can see at the photo above wasn't visible anymore... It was full of ugly grey clouds, with cold wind blowing...

As a "car freak", while we were on the beach, we noticed a big car parked in front of a Lebanese restaurant... Even from a big distance, you could notice it was much more luxurious than the others... People were stopping to take photos, so when we decided to leave, I did the same... 😀 You can't see an everyday Maybach on the streets... Personally, combining two colors reminds me of a Chevy Chase movie where he was riding an old van, taking 5 kids on vacation... 😃

Btw. Iraqi licence plates... The first time I saw these...

And we are back to the "crime scene", the place we lived before... We are still on the same day, it was getting dark, so I took a photo of an almost empty seaside promenade...

IMG_20260218_191048.jpg

By checking the photo properties, these two photo are taken with only 1 hour of difference...

IMG_20260218_202027.jpg

Sometimes, in winter times, the promenade looks like a day after an apocalypse... Ghost town...

Tomorrow is Monday... Another week begins, hopefully more productive than the previous one... Gotta kick myself in the ass and start building!

How was your weekend?

Thank you for your time.

Sometimes things are just slow, but I don't think its bad to have a change of pace. Sure, things might not be moving as fast as you would like, but I still think that coming back with a different mindset can help.

Now, when you said it like that, I became aware of the importance of "changing the pace"... I suppose my brain still wants to do things the way it did 25 years ago, but the rest of my body can't anymore...😃

Yeah, if you are self employed and the business is small and it's all up to you, there's a lot of pressure... The real "shot for life" is born as a son of the owner of an established company, then you can scratch your ass all day long doing nothing (like the boss' son at my place)

Hahahaha... Oh, I know that "son of the rich" story very well... 😃 Unfortunately, I wasn't one of those... I would like to pick my nose in the corner, and scratch my ass while others are working... 😂

Well, I have pigeons, too, maybe for the same reason :)

When my father was younger, he had canary birds and parrots, so I suppose I inherited that from him... In my teenage years, with his help, I made a volier for parrots which were completely my responsibility... Unfortunately, due to still unknown circumstances (or maybe not that unknown), all my birds died overnight! I suspect an anti-moth poison which my parents used at home at that time...

All in all, I still love birds, so maybe one day, when I move from apartment to house, I will have some... Btw, I have nice photos from my recent walk which should perfectly fit you... Hopefully, I will publish them soon :D

You can't be productive 24/7 i've tried that in the past ended up in a burn-out , so no need to feel guilty about that .

I know many people who have had it, including myself... Luckily for me, I didn't pay a high price as some others with their health issues...
Knowing the theory and consequences is one thing, but listening to them is another story... 😃
Thanks for your kind words, Mick! 🙏

I think sometimes we just need to take a step back and enjoy the little moments, like that time with your pigeon buddy. Nature has a way of reminding us what really matters ;)

Indeed... Nature has its way... It's important to have these "encounters" with nature and other beings...

Guilt, guilt, it's all in the mind. You already know your limit, the number of hours you can go a day, and I belive you're doing just great in the business, and other areas.

Just appreciate you for coming this far. Building a business isn't easy peasy, it demands all of your time. But remember, all work and no play.... 😂

Pigeons are interesting animals and sometimes friendly especially when they notice you have food to share.

I !LUV all the photos, they're stunning!

Have a beautiful week ahead.

A big hug and my best wishes for a great week! I loved what you wrote here; it was such a great way to vent, the kind that relaxes us after writing and helps us keep going. Every time you write about how you built your little empire by working hard from a young age, you inspire me, and I'm glad you've always had that mindset. But you know that human beings change over time, and I think your body, mind, and soul are asking for something more, and I get the impression it has to do with connecting more with nature 😅 I don't know, but I do know that you'll discover it, and some important change will gradually happen, whether it's not carrying your laptop everywhere, or simply going outside for at least a couple of hours every day, even with the excuse of taking photos for the blog, like I do.

This year I've taken things more calmly, and I'm not even sure if I should, since this country is so economically challenging. But in December I was completely overwhelmed with music and Hive, and I felt bad about not spending time with my family and friends while I kept gaining weight. So in January I started going to the gym, got back into hiking, and deleted Hive from my phone. Now I only use it when I'm at home and I control my time on the laptop. I've felt better because there's time for everything. Of course, everyone has a different way of escaping from exhausting routines, and eventually your world will return to normal. You did well by simply writing about this; you're a great man my friend! 🙏
