2029 Andaman Islands : Fiona
In Andamans, a ray of hope came in 2029.
The name “Fiona” started being muttered in reverence, a legend amongst survivors. Traveling and fighting alongside tamed mutees, she was rumoured to spread this new knowledge freely to any wishing to learn. Stories blossomed of camps pushing back against the wild; using mutees to fight fire with fire.
With a mention of her name enough to restore faith in the future, she steered mankind back into empathy and mutual aid; reaching an almost divine status in a world that was desperate for hope.
With the newfound assistance of tamed mutees and their borrowed powers, survivors rediscovered their world. Mutees could shift the earth, raise walls, or carry ten times more weight than the strongest human. From their abilities came better fortifications, and most importantly a way to protect humanity from extinction.
Humanity settled in strategic places, becoming sedentary once more and creating havens throughout Andaman. Bows and lances had replaced firearms due to the scarcity of ammo and the difficulties associated with repairing old-tech. Thankfully mutees more than made up for the change, spearheading the battles while hunters supported them.
For a time, it seemed like the worst had passed and three major towns were erected.
2030 - 2042 : Calm Before the Storm
Lipur lay in the north, safe and comfortable in the caves of the dormant volcano. The city of a thousand tunnels, heated by hot springs, and defended by natural chokepoints.
Further south was Rangat, the unremarkable ruins of a town. Surrounded by the wilderness, it neighboured Andaman’s most fertile lands, the Sweetplains.
Lastly, Port Blair; the town nested on the site of the island’s former capital. A maze of concrete and Oldsteel, filled with the secrets and remains of the past.
Safe in those enclaves, and for the first time since The Spike, a new generation was born.
Yearning to see the world, Fiona left the island in 2034; making it her mission to spread the knowledge of taming and uniting the world once again. In her place, she left a council of the wisest to rule over the towns, strengthening the foundations of the new society she had helped create.
She would never return, cementing her place as a figure of legends.
Life during these times was trying but fair. Deaths were much rarer than before, and each were properly mourned. Danger still lurked around every corner, but survivors were now hunters, trained and hardened by the years.
2043 : Restart
The fragile balance of this peace was eventually shattered a decade later. In 2043, without warning, Andaman was shaken by a massive earthquake, for the first time since The Spike. Shortly after, the Auroras returned, reopening old traumas and confirming the worst suspicions.
What had caused this second event remains unknown, but one thing was made abundantly clear; it was nowhere near the power of the first one. There were no deaths from the radiation this time. Instead, the mutees and the plants evolved once more. What was known and mastered reverted back into mysterious and lethal. Catching the hunters off guard, this "rebound" in radiation threw civilization back decades.
The seas were now home to behemoths; halting all hopes of travels to the mainland, and cutting the route from Rangat to Port Blair. New types of creatures emerged on a scale of power previously unfathomed. The term "Mythical class mutee” was coined, and the town of Lipur was their first victim. Awoken by the powers of a new monster, the volcano flooded the town with lava in a day.
Faced with extinction once more, survivors gathered in Rangat, the unlikely bastion. Despite its strategic weaknesses and lack of comfort, it still had access to abundant food and clean water, and most importantly, it was still standing.
2056 : MuTerra Gameplay Begins
It has been over ten years, and Rangat still holds. Rebuilt three times over, it now welcomes the third generation of hunters. Your generation.
MuTerra is set in a post-apocalyptic world where radiation has killed almost all of humanity and has mutated plants and animals. You, the survivors, are tasked with ensuring that humanity doesn't go extinct by exploring the wild, capturing the mutated animals and taming them.
