Let's talk to producers /

in Market Friday9 months ago

It's not about only today's shopping experiences but I thought it's well worth sharing my thought & experiences to the market Friday community.

I like to visit markets especially where producers are there. The reason is I can talk to them. They know their produces well and often passionate about it.

At the weekly market in downtown, I was surprised to find Okra at a stand. Okra produced in Germany! It is one of my must have vegetable in the summer time. They are everywhere in Japan even in winter time. I tried to grow it at my garden but I only could have few fruits. I talked to a granny and she said she planted the Okra. She was proud on her challenge to have an exotic plant in a green house. I could leave the stand happily with the Okra. I enjoyed the Okra with my daughter.

As she said the long noodle beans were also her new attempt of the year, I tried them. It tasted like regular green beans but I liked the shape. Of course my daughter as well.

Another interesting experience was at a local market where I also have my own stand twice a month. Last Saturday, I visited the market for shopping. It was nice that I could take more time to see local produces and have space in my backpack.

A vegetable "Portulak" caught my eyes. It was so beautiful and I couldn't help talking to the producer I know. He explained me how I could cook or eat raw, and how it grew wildly in his field. It drops seeds every year and come back again in the next year.

According to the advice, I stir fried Portulak with mushrooms and Tofu, which is also locally produced (and I must say it's the Germany's best Tofu!)

Coming back to Porturak, I was fascinated by it's outlook ... and found there was root 👀 👀 👀

I planted one of them and it seems it settled in a pot in my micro balcony.

I look forward to visiting the farmer stand and tell him that I'm growing his Portulak. I wish I have time to do so as I'm a seller this weekend.

That's my market experience to talk to producers. I agree that supermarkets are convenient. But take a look at your local market, talk to producers and try local produces. It's a priceless satisfying experience 😊

Have a nice weekend!
