Market Friday at the Newark Air Museum

For #marketfriday initiated by the lovely @dswigle, we decided to do something a little different today and visited the Newark Air Museum, over the border into Nottinghamshire. I hate flying but these planes weren't going anywhere! I pretended I was a little older to get a concessionary ticket .... naughty elf!! I paid £9 to get in.

The museum is appropriately situated on a former Royal Air Force Station and has a lot of aircrafts on view.

To begin with, we decided to have a look at the planes that were outside.

It was quite a cold day. The frost hadn't thawed out from underneath the planes. It was really interesting though, so I didn't notice my nose had dropped off from the cold.

After awhile, we moved into the hangers and into the warmth, where surprisingly we were allowed to board one of the planes.

After successfully negotiating the stairs, we entered the Jetstream Mk 1 XX492 from the 1970s. (I made that sound as though I knew what it was, but I'd got no idea). You could smell it was from the 70s as well.

I don't know how they managed to remember what all the knobs and dials were for. I don't even know what the knobs on my cooker are for ....

My brother took this photo of me in the pilot's seat. I managed not to press the START button. 😁 I was actually a pilot for a few minutes!

The mannequin dummy took me by surprise a bit. I thought for a moment it was actually a real person in there .... who looked very similar to Deputy Dawg.

Some artefacts were also on display. When you look at the old parachutes they used, you can't believe they took that leap of faith. I wouldn't trust a parachute today never mind this one!

Overall, it was an excellent day out at the museum. The volunteers were all very friendly and it was a bonus to actually sit in a cockpit of a plane. It was well worth the visit.

Sort:

very good collector's items, it is incredible to think that these planes were in use at some point in their history, they almost look like toys but they were surely lethal in the war

I honestly don't know how some even got off the ground!

Recreating the Aliens film series i see :D
How far does the plane go without the start button?:P

Ha ha! I actually got in the air but I didn't want to come over as a show off. This is me in the air .... if you believe that you will believe anything.😁
