When budgeting for the trips I make, I take several items into account and each one of them has an order of "importance" for me. In my previous trips, most of the budget was taken by the cost of accommodation, but since I discovered the modality of traveling as a volunteer in hostels this is no longer a problem. One might think that on the trip to Ushuaia I would have plenty of money to spare, but living several days at the end of the world is still expensive, since according to my personal opinion, most of the things there are designated at "tourist price" 😅.
Al momento de armar el presupuesto para los viajes que hago tengo varios ítems en cuenta y cada uno de ellos tiene un orden de "importancia" para mí. En mis viajes anteriores, la mayor parte del presupuesto se la llevaba el costo del alojamiento, pero desde que descubrí la modalidad de viajar voluntariando en las hosterias esto ya no representa un problema. Uno podría pensar que en el viaje a Ushuaia tendría bastante dinero de sobra, pero vivir varios días en el fin del mundo igualmente resulta costoso, ya que según mi opinión personal, la mayoría de las cosas ahí están designadas en "precio turista" 😅.
The least I do on my walks always ends up being to go out and consume something outside. It's literally the last thing on my list because I like to prioritize my money for other things like excursions or transfers to places I can't get to on foot. Also, since I always end up staying in a hostel, these types of accommodations have a communal kitchen where you can prepare your own food, so eating out isn't really necessary. However, I always like to go for a walk to nice places and find out what the prices are in each of them 😃.
Lo que menos hago en mis paseos siempre termina siendo salir a consumir algo afuera. Literalmente es la última cosa de mi lista porque me gusta priorizar mi dinero para otras cosas como excursiones o traslados a lugares a los que no puedo llegar a pie. Además, como siempre termino alojada en un hostel, estos tipos de alojamientos cuentan con una cocina comunitaria en donde podés preparar tus propios alimentos, por lo que salir a comer afuera no es realmente necesario. Sin embargo, siempre me gusta ir a pasear a lugars lindos e informarme de los precios que manejan en cada uno de ellos 😃.
One of the places I visited after spending my afternoon on the way to the Martial Glacier was a small tea house at the entrance. This place is a small cafeteria where you can taste some food after your walk in an incredible place. Everything was very picturesque, and I was glad to find some needle work there too, this time decorating the trees at the entrance. This area is already up the mountain, about 7 km from the city center and there are not many other options to eat around there, so it is usually crowded and the service is delayed, but because of its popularity they say it is worth the wait 😃.
Uno de los lugares que visité después de haber pasado mi tarde en camino al Glaciar Martial fue una pequeña casa de té que queda en la entrada. Este lugar es una pequeña cafetería en la que podés degustar algo de comida después de tu paseo en un lugar increíble. Todo estaba ambientado muy pintoresco, y me algró encontrar algo de trabajo de agujas ahí también, esta vez decorando los árboles de la entrada. Esta zona ya queda montaña arriba, a unos 7 km del centro de la ciudad y no hay muchas otras opciones para comer por ahí, así que generalmente suele estar concurrido y con demora en la atención, pero por su popularidad dicen que vale la pena esperar 😃.
My idea this time was not to consume anything, but rather I just wanted to "gossip" about why it was so famous. Inside I found a very nice showroom, full of all those decorative things that maybe you don't need but would like to have. Most of them of course were tea sets, with cups, teapots and all the knick-knacks. Everything was very, very beautiful and there were all colors and styles to choose from, but at quite special prices. For example, I was surprised to see small mugs at $10, teapots at $30 and even thermal water bottles at $50, plus teapots at almost $100 😶.
Mi idea esta vez no era consumir nada, más bien solo quería "chusmear" por qué era tan famosa. En su interior me encontré con un salón de ventas muy lindo, lleno de todas esas cosas decorativas que quizás no necesitas pero que te gustaría tener. La mayoría de ellas por supuesto eran juegos para tomar el té, con tazas, teteras y todas las chucherías. Todo era muy, muy hermoso y había para elegir de todos los colores y estilos, pero a unos precios bastante especiales. Por ejemplo, me sorprendió ver pequeñas tazas a $10, teteras a $30 e incluso botellas de agua térmicas a $50, además de teteras de casi $100 😶.
In the case of Ushuaia, this city is quite oriented to foreign tourism, so I understand that these prices are perhaps a little high for us Argentines. However, on this trip I met quite a few foreigners and I always asked them the same question: if Argentina is expensive in dollars. Most of them agreed that some things were cheaper than in their countries, such as food, but others were equally or more expensive, such as the cost of accommodation or souvenirs like these. Be that as it may, I am happy for those who can pay for this kind of items, at least for now I was satisfied with the small tour 😅.
En el caso de Ushuaia, esta ciudad está bastante orientada al turismo extranjero, así que entiendo que tengan estos precios quizás un poco alto para nosotros los argentinos. Sin embargo, en este viaje me crucé con bastantes extranjeros a los que siempre les preguntaba lo mismo: si Argentina les resulta cara en dólares. La mayoría de ellos coincidía en que algunas cosas si eran más baratas que en sus países, como quizás la comida, pero otras igual o más cara, como el costo de los alojamientos o recuerdos. Sea como sea, me alegro por aquellos que puedan pagar por este tipo de souvenirs, al menos por ahora me conformé con el pequeño paseo 😅.
As for the cafeteria service itself, it is true what they said and it was quite crowded, even with a line to get a place. The space is small, but surely everyone wants to have their snack souvenir in Ushuaia. What surprised me is that it was like this even though it was low season, so in the middle of the ski season it must not be crowded. And it's understandable: who wouldn't like a nice cup of hot tea after an afternoon surrounded by frozen snow 😅?
En cuanto al servicio de cafetería propiamente dicho, es verdad lo que decían y estaba bastante concurrido, incluso con fila para conseguir un lugar. El espacio es pequeño, pero seguramente todos quieren tener su recuerdo de merienda en Ushuaia. Lo que me sorprendió es que estaba así aún siendo temporada baja, así que en plena temporada de ski esto no debe dar abasto. Y es entendible: ¿quién no quisiera una buena taza de té caliente después de una tarde rodeado de congelada nieve 😅?
