Here's how our Local Meat & Fish Market looks like.

in Market Friday2 years ago

Crowded, messy, unhygienic, smelly; whatever you name it, the local meat and fish market is the only best place where you can buy fresh products at a reasonable price. Supermarkets and online shops are also available but I can guarantee you, their products can never be as good as the local wet market.

Almost all the local markets look similar to what I am going to share with you today. They are all very crowded, wet; and in a very small space, you will find hundreds of shops. Also, usually, they cut the meat and fish freshly in the shop so you will get to see a lot of blood, fishes skin, chicken feathers and everything here and there.

When I say, I usually avoid going to our local market this is the only reason...

If you are already feeling uncomfortable then I would suggest you skip my post.

Let's take a look how the fish and meat market looks like in my locality.

We have many local small sweet water fish. They are flavorful and full of nutrition than farm-grown fish. Also, they cost a little bit high and take a lot of time and effort to process. It's best to process them from the market.

In this market, they sell as well as offer the processing of meat and fish. If you pay some extra like around $.0.30 per kg, they will process your fish and chicken. I usually take the service because processing fish at home makes my kitchen messy and stinky.

The best thing about this type of market is you can choose what fish or chicken you want to have and they will process them instantly for you so you will get the finest product.

I am not sharing any photos of processing meat or fish because they will probably gross you out but sharing this photo to give you an insight into how the market looks like.

I usually avoid going to local markets because of these crowded and unhygienic environments. Fortunately, my husband takes this responsibility. But yesterday one of my sisters-in-law informed me that she will come to visit us today so I had to go to the local market to have some fish and meat.

I bought one farm-grown Katla fish which was around 3 kg and costs 1250 taka, which is $14.50. And two chickens that cost 650 taka, which is equivalent to $7.50.
Nowadays food products became a bit costly than before. But if I still compare these to many countries, I know that they seem pretty reasonable.

So that was my market Friday, not fancy but a necessary one.

The fish bazaar looks so crowded and thou is unhygenic place there, the fishes still look fresh and 'just caught'! Awesome click rem.

Yes, we can find alive fish on the market. That's the best part. Thanks for your appreciation.

Messy? That's how meat and fish markets are, even in Nigeria but we love to eat them. So we have no choice but to visit the market and enjoy the smell and mess for the duration of the visit! 😂

Nowadays food products became a bit costly than before.

Very true. I see your meat and fish are not as expensive as ours. One full grown chicken costs between $14 to $19 here and the price just keeps going up!

Nice pictures. I hope your sister in-law enjoyed the fish. 🙂

This is how it is, I know. We are used to visit this market places so don't get bothered anymore 😅
And the price, it still cheap compared to many places. Food and lifestyle products are not costly over here.
Thanks for putting your thoughts in. Have a good day 🌸☀️

Wow! @kemmyb The chicken here is $2.20/kg So, I am not sure how that fares with your prices.

For visitors we usually do what we don't like to do! i can relate as well! cos we've gotta entertain them no matter what and give them the best hospitality ever!
marekt place may look unhygienic and crowded but your photo came out nice as well

We are used to visit such market, so it's normal to us. But now as I have to bring my son with me everywhere I go so I try to avoid this places. This time he was in the school while I was shopping. And you said it correct, for guests we have to ensure their priority.
Thanks for your appreciation. Have a good day ☀️🌸

Hi @rem-steem, I'm glad you can count on markets that offer fresh poultry and fish. The price you paid for fish seems cheap to me because in Venezuela despite being a country with a wide coast and variety of fish the price per kg averages 10$ so 3 kg would be 30$; being an expensive protein alternative. Thanks for sharing this peculiar market and show us a little more of your place, greetings.

I know how things are over there. Our food and lifestyle products are still very reasonable in price if I compare with any other countries.
We are used to such market place and as I said, this is the best kind of place to find the fresh products.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a great day 🌸☀️

You are right, it looks almost exactly like our wet markets here
Only one thing I have never seen here, those hanging rattan basket trays - that's so cool :D

The baskets are best option to keep the chickens captive.
Good to hear our similarities.
Have a great day ☀️🌸

Well going to a fish and livestock market involves seeing lots of blood, quite a huge market.

Totally but the price make everything worthy.
Thanks 😊

Seriously, I must confess you guys are fortunate to find the price worthy, reverse is the case down here.

I know things are different there. We are still in a good condition but there's no guarantee when things will become different.

Nice post, the fish prices seems reasonable to me!!

They were really reasonable.
Thanks 😊

I like it when you are use to the market and you know every place inghe market and it is Also sweet taking your son with you everywhere you go

Thanks :)
