Chiococca alba is a tropical and sub-tropical plant widely distributed in the American continent, belonging to the family Rubiaceae, subfamily Cinchonoideae.

The species Chiococca alba has a shrubby or arboreal habit, typically has several trunks or stems grouped with erect branches and often scandent, that is, it climbs and holds on different supports without the help of specialized structures. It can reach a height of 3 meters but its height depends on the supporting structure.
La especie Chiococca alba presenta un hábito arbustivo o arbóreo, típicamente presenta varios troncos o tallos agrupados con ramas erectas y muchas veces escandentes, es decir, que trepa y se sostiene en diferentes soportes sin la ayuda de estructuras especializadas. Puede alcanzar una altura de 3 metros pero su altura depende de la estructura de soporte.
The leaves are petiolate with elliptic-oval blade, acute apex and cuneate base.
Las hojas son pecioladas con limbo elíptico-ovalado, ápice agudo y base cuneada.
Its fruits are ovoid-round, white and small that can measure a little more than one centimeter. Curiously, although the fruits are attractive to birds, which consume them and disperse their seeds, it has been documented that in some of the Galápagos Islands, lava lizards Microlophus albermarlensis and Microlophus bivattatus also consume them and disperse their seeds.

The anatomy of its wood has been studied and it has been demonstrated that it has xeromorphic attributes, or adaptability to dry environments, including great resistance to vessel collapse during water transport and relative transport efficiency compared to other species of its subfamily (Cinchonoideae), which is why it is sometimes considered a xerophytic species or adapted to environments with low water availability.

Finally, although the genus Chiococca includes more than twenty species found throughout the American continent, its phytochemical and pharmacological knowledge is limited to a series of studies on Chiococca alba that have reported the isolation of flavonoids, alkaloids, iridoids, terpenoids and saponins from the roots of the plant, and lignans, ketoalcohols and coumarins from the leaves.
Finalmente, aunque el género Chiococca incluye más de veinte especies que se encuentran en todo el continente americano, sus conocimientos fitoquímicos y farmacológicos se limitan a una serie de estudios realizados sobre Chiococca alba que han informado del aislamiento de flavonoides, alcaloides, iridoides, terpenoides y saponinas de las raíces de la planta, y lignanos, cetoalcoholes y cumarinas de las hojas.
