There are many things to feel concerned about in this world; like how to tackle your current health issue, how to get your next luxury house or ride, how to get that nice dress, or if you are in a 3rd world country, where your next meal will come from and how to survive the economy. As for me, with tons of things to feel concerned about in the world, I am worried about a potential escalation of the various wars going on in the world and the chances of surviving the nuclear winter that may follow, should a nuclear war ensue.
Nuclear winter is a severe and prolonged global climatic cooling effect that is hypothesized to occur after widespread firestorms following a large-scale nuclear war. The hypothesis is based on the fact that such fires can inject soot into the stratosphere, where it can block some direct sunlight from reaching the surface of the Earth. This would lead to a significant drop in global temperatures, much like an extended winter season, hence the term "nuclear winter".
The concept of nuclear winter is not just a theoretical construct but has potential real-world implications. For instance, the ongoing geopolitical tensions and conflicts, such as the Russia/Ukraine war and the Israel/Hamas war, if escalated to nuclear proportions, could potentially trigger a nuclear winter.
Moreover, even a limited nuclear war between smaller nuclear powers could have drastic knock-on effects on global agriculture and dire consequences for life on Earth. During this period, the availability of food and clean water would be severely affected due to the reduced sunlight and fall in temperatures. I sometimes wonder if the reason man exploring the prospect of living on Mars is in preparation for the inevitable nuclear winter that will occur on Earth. As long as nuclear weapons are a thing, nuclear winter remains a possibility.
However, apart from seeking life on another planet, researchers suggest that certain island nations, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere, might be more resilient to such a catastrophe. These include Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. These nations are most capable of continuing to produce food despite the reduced sunlight and fall in temperatures, and could potentially help reboot a collapsed human civilization. Little wonder that my heart has been set on relocation to Australia for some time now; is it nature directing my heart?

I wonder if we're going to hit a whole other disaster before we get a nuclear winter. Either we'll develop something far more destructive or we put ourselves in a mess by mistake.
In the Universe, we call it a great filter because the likelihood is that no advanced civilisation managed to develop beyond that point for whatever mysterious reason (war, disease, etc which becomes inevitably destructive). Are we approaching that filter?

Could be anything. The idea is that there's just some universal barrier preventing civilisations from ever getting to a point that we become interplanetary.
If your theory is right, perhaps the great filter will annihilate all but Australians, who will then go on to singlehandedly colonise the galaxy, bringing with them death and destruction in the form of various deadly spiders and insects
