How true is the Dark Forest hypothesis.

Martin Ryle was the first to theorize and argue scientifically that it is a bad idea to send signals, saying or announcing our presence, because they could have hostile intentions, the Dark Forest hypothesis which is based on what this man said and published in Liu Cixin's 2008 novel and mentioned by Abraham Loeb with the current issue of 3I/Back, this Dark Forest hypothesis means that we do not see aliens because alien civilizations could remain silent to avoid being detected by other civilizations. potentially hostile and as soon as one became known, such as us sending messages to the cosmos, it would automatically be attacked and exterminated.

And for what reason? not because of wanting to colonize and enslave us. Our planet and our way of life could be totally incompatible with yours, there is a more basic reason, fear; If some civilization may have had an unpleasant experience with another in the very distant past, it was able to develop a defense system and as for locating a civilization, it is better not to risk coming into contact with it and decide to destroy it before it develops technology superior to yours.

This could happen automatically, perhaps the biological beings that created that hypothetical civilization disappeared hundreds of millions of years ago or passed to another plane of existence, and left behind them an automated defense system. If this were so, it would be impossible to try to negotiate with them simply because they would be automatons executing an order, but is the universe like that? Is it a dark forest? My opinion is no.

First, because in the ecosystems that we know, collaboration and balance between species is something that favors the development of higher and more intelligent animals, ecosystems are not composed of a single species, but of a multitude, which do eat others, but they try to maintain a balance because if there is no food, the predator disappears, there are also collaborative relationships, even between insects, the most evolved insects are those that act collectively, so a solitary existence and exterminate someone with whom you can potentially collaborate and from which learning something new, even if they are technologically inferior, would be a waste of energy and intellectual enrichment.

Second, the second argument against the dark forest is because we cannot hide with the current technology and the one that we can develop in the coming years with the James Web telescope that we have and those that come in the future, we know that the Earth cannot hide, currently we almost have technology to detect if a planet has an atmosphere compatible with life. There is fuss and discussions and debates on the subject of biomarkers, but I believe that in a few years, in a very short time, we may be close to getting a sensible table of biomarkers that will allow us to deduce whether a planet by analyzing its atmosphere has life on it.

Although the Earth can be detected by a civilization with a technology similar to ours, a little better, it can be detected with a planet with life and not now, but for billions of years and therefore we cannot hide at least as a planet with life, there is a point in which I agree with Martin Ryle, the one who defended that it was a bad idea and it is one thing for the aliens on another planet to know that the Earth is a planet with life and another thing very different is for them to have confirmation that a life exists on it. technological civilization with weapons of mass destruction and that we kill each other in wars that they may think are real nonsense.

In that case, if they found out, it could be extremely dangerous, naivety is something that can be very problematic in the cosmos, especially considering our history of violence.

I really enjoyed "The Dark Forest" book. We've already sent out way too much stuff to the cosmos for our presence to not be noticed. Only a matter of mathematics and time before (we) - or our descendants find out for themselves.

That's how it is! greetings
