The first image of 3I/Atlas emerging from the sun's brightness and leaving its perihelion, which was on October 30, 2025, has been published, passing about 203 million kilometers from our star. The image was obtained on October 31 by the Lowell observatory, which is one of the few in the world capable of capturing objects that have been close to the sun's brightness or even that are emerging from it.

This is thanks to the large mirror of this observatory that has the capacity to collect a lot of light and its modern high-quality instrumentation that is designed to minimize parasitic light and obtain high contrast images. In addition, and this is the key point, the telescope mount allows it to aim precisely at very low angles, this is similar to a cannon, in this case, this cannon that is the telescope, can aim very low and in this case it is essential to hunt an object like 3I/Atlas, which at the moment It can only be seen immediately after the sun sets or before sunrise, just when the sun is not glaring

Not all telescopes can do the above, only a few are capable of doing this and they may begin to publish photos in the coming days. For general observation, it will be easier from mid-November and from the end of this month of November astronomy fans will be able to join the hunt for 3I/Atlas.

And the last anomaly of 3I/Atlas is that it has changed its color, it went from a greenish tone to a bluish tone. Let us remember that what we see is not the nucleus or solid part of 3I/Atlas, what we have always seen since it was discovered is the cloud of gas and dust that surrounds it, which is called a coma and is something typical of comets. Although the chemical composition of 3I/Atlas is quite strange. that of his coma, that of that cloud of gas and dust.

The color of the coma is always a clue of the materials that a comet expels and of which it is evidently composed. In the case of 3I/Atlas, it was initially a reddish tone. This occurred in the months of July and August. It is assumed that it was a product of the large amount of dust of organic compounds that it was expelling, that is, carbon molecules.

Then 3I/Atlas in the month of September turned bluish green and that green color is supposed to have been the product of the expulsion of diatomic carbon C2, which in other comets is the main responsible for the green color they emit, although in the case of 3I/Atlas, the C2 was detected in small quantities, much less than the average of the green comets in the solar system, it is a topic still under debate if this compound was really the one that caused the green color.

A cyanide peak was also detected on August 25, which is also possible to be responsible for the bluish tones. This suggests that Tres y Atlas may be composed of layers of various materials in a transition from dispersion of surface dust to sublimation of internal ice, and in these layers we can find many organic materials or organic molecules, compounds essential for the emergence of life, although it does not mean that they have been products of life.
