Ai, with humanoid robots, can replace every job! Tax Them?

AI, with humanoid robots, can replace every job!

As discussed, productivity goes up, but so does unemployment. So where does the money come from to support those displaced by AI and robots?

Why not tax robots and AI? Most countries currently tax workers, so just swap that to taxing robots and AI.

Sounds like a simple solution - but it won't work.

Why won't it work - because it can't be measured the same.

  • One humanoid robot might work 24 hours a day - do they get taxed for one or three people?

  • What about existing robots? They have probably replaced people already, do we start taxing them now?

  • People have different wages and levels of productivity. Do we tax on the best or worst worker? Do we tax on the old average wage? What about ten years from now?

  • One person using AI replaces ten people in an advertising agency. Do we tax the AI usage? How?

At the end of the day, it's just too tricky, complex and hard to manage.

I can't see it working - can you?

So what can be done? I have some ideas which I'll share in other posts; in the meantime, ponder if you can see how taxing AI and robots might work?
