I do not know how someone would decide to completely stop the intake of salt, that sounds really weird to me because I cannot even imagine what it would take to completely quit salt intake. Here are things that happen to the body when there is a complete stop to the intake of salt.
- There is a drop in the risk of developing kidney stones: Excessive salt intake increases the chances of developing kidney stones. Kidney stones are little, hard deposits that are made up of salt and minerals that form inside the kidney, the fact that I mentioned they are small does not mean they can't find a way to make themselves visible through the pain they bring.

According to Dr.Nikola, if you are someone who experiences a lot of swelling and bloating, either during some sessions during your menstrual cycle or after meals. Or if you are a person who would occasionally need to take off your rings just because your body seems to be retaining excessive fluid? There may just be a reason for some people to feel more energized when they reduce their intake of salt, and this is because of the reduced retention of water, that makes these people more energetic potentially.
Stopping salt intake will result in a decreased risk of stroke and heart attack: Dr. Amin Yehya, who is a cardiologist at Piedmont Heart Institute says if your blood pressure is high enough to be hypertension, then you stand a higher chance of stroke and heart disease.
- A chance at weight loss: When you stop consuming salt at first, it is most likely that you are losing water weight at first, as salt water makes it possible for the body to retain water. If in addition to this, you shift your diet to the consumption of whole and unprocessed food, it would naturally help to reduce the intake of sodium.

Reduction in bathroom usage: The consumption of high sodium content, means more frequent bathroom usage. This means a reduced salt intake will translate to less bathroom usage as well.
Stronger bones: Research shows that consuming excessive salt could cause damage to your skeleton. Research that was presented to the Endocrine Society, showed that women who consumed diets that were very high in salt, stood a high chance of getting a broken bone after menopause, regardless of the woman's bone density.
Maybe completely stopping the intake of salt all at once isn't a great idea for some of us, myself largely included, but with all the benefits attached to the reduction of salt intake, maybe we just want to work on taking less salt.
Facts also states that, the human taste bud will conveniently adapt to lower salt levels in food in just a matter of weeks.
To reduce salt intake during food preparation, these options would help;
- The use of spices and other flavor enhancers.
- The use of fresh or dry herbs to add flavor.
- Lemon or lime juices are great flavor enhancers too and when used for meat, could make them more tender.
- Avoid fast food that is high in salt.
While trying to cut down on salt intake, bear in mind some foods especially processed ones that have ''hidden salt'' content, those ones contain a high salt level so go for fresh vegetables or lower sodium canned varieties instead.
However, while we are getting excited about the strong benefits linked with reduction of salt intake. I read an article from someone who stopped taking salt for some and he shared some of his experiences;
He said he experienced muscle cramps that would make him literally scream and wake up in the middle of the night, it turned out it was as a result of electrolyte imbalance.
He also stated that he felt exhausted almost all the time, the sodium level in his body had drastically dropped and this made him feel tired and dizzy. Plain water would not just fix electrolyte requirements. He was craving junk a lot, which obviously interfered with his weight loss mission.
Conclusion.
One thing I do know for certain is that, excessive salt intake isn't good for the human body and health, but cutting it all together, like totally staying away from it. Hmmm, I think that is something you should see your doctor for before choosing to embark on the journey.
