Using old Soviet schoolbooks is a trend among Russian immigrants here in the US, I have noticed. I live a stone's throw from a town called Moscow, and there is another town by that same name on the other side of the country, as I learned from @generikat. I don't know about non-Russians, though. I've never seen English translations of Russian schoolbooks, though I have a translation of an old university-level textbook on steam turbine design.

thank you for your reply! actually I was very surprised by this new news as well, because we all know relationships between USA and Russia now, and using Soviet textbooks in the USA right now....seems to be unbelievable. but it's news with definite media source...
but I do believe people appreciate Sovuet education all over the world, the level of it was extremely high, and it's not a secret that the best world specialists were educated in the USSR
