STEMng Digest: Is the World in Reverse Civilization?

Authored by @gentleshaid

Civilization refers to an advanced and complex human society characterized by various attributes, including the development of cities, a system of governance, organized religion, economic specialization, technological advancements, and cultural achievements.

However, we are at a point in civilization where we are using technological advancements to level cities, where nations rise above international laws, religions are criminalized, and where we look to ethnically clean off people of specific culture off the earth.

The big question is: Are we in reverse civilization?

Welcome to a new edition of STEMng Digest.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain are highlighted weekly.

Below are the posts that made it into our digest for this week:

1.@eni-ola: A Case Study of Kale Salad Gone Wrong
Our first post for this week is really an interesting medical piece. I know of many people that frequent hospital for ailments whose diagnoses keep eluding medical personnel. Such could have been the case of the couple in this article but due to the temerity of the doctors. Read how a simple meal of kale salad led to a long medical diagnosis journey.

2.@merrymercy: The Shifting Paradigm of Disease Looking at the 1918 Influenza Pandemic
Merrymercy is one of the veteran authors in the community. Her post this week discusses the shifting paradigm of disease, specifically focusing on the 1918 influenza pandemic. It begins by highlighting the fascination with exploring how people in the past coped with health crises that still affect us today. This historical perspective provides insight into the evolution of medical knowledge and innovation and a good read in all ramifications.

3.@sam9999: Shocking! Common knowledge from childhood biology was nothing but a misconception - My reaction
Next is a post that discusses several common misconceptions about the human body and presents new information that challenges these misconceptions. The first misconception addressed is the purpose of the appendix. While it is commonly believed to be a useless organ that causes problems when inflamed, the post suggests that the appendix might actually have a role in housing immune system tissues and serving as a sanctuary for beneficial bacteria. This challenges the traditional view of the appendix as a non-functional organ. What more did it challenge? Read the entire post.

4.@oluwatobiloba: The result of our visit to the hospital when my pregnant friend started throwing up yellowish liquid.
If you are pregnant, has someone close to you that is, or is looking to get pregnant in the nearest future, this next post will be quite beneficial to you. The post discusses the experience of the author's pregnant friend who has been vomiting yellowish liquid, particularly in the mornings when she is hungry. They decided to visit a doctor to get an opinion on the issue. Something interesting happened next, read the post to find out.

5.@clinton19: Weekly Science And Technology Reports - October 22, 2023
Our last post for this week provides a weekly update on various scientific and technological topics, including how plants communicate with each other, the potential dominance of solar energy over fossil fuels, a bacteria-based living paint, the relationship between consciousness and the universe, a new chart of the universe, and the concept of using a solar shield tied to an asteroid to cool down the Earth. Click the post above to get details of these topics.

And that ends our selections for this week. Do not forget to give the featured posts/authors your maximum support. Thank you in advance.

Thanks a lot for this mention. I really need to read these amazing posts. For civilization, let me just grab a popcorn and see where the entire thing get us to

We can't just be an observer. We need to take an active part. Who knows!

I am glad to see my post being picked. I read the post by @sam9999. It was a great post, and a good reaction to @ireti's post
