Liam desde pequeño fue un niño muy miedoso. Le aterraba la oscuridad, el poder ver sangre, era claustrofóbico, le tenía miedo a las alturas, la muerte y la humillación. Siempre estaba serio, no conversaba con nadie y era de muy pocos amigos por no decir ninguno. Esta personalidad trajo como consecuencia que sufriera de bullyin en la escuela, en el barrio y hasta en la propia casa. Lamentablemente su madre había fallecido y solo vivía con su hermana Samanta, y su padrastro James, el cual para nada los quería.
Cierto día regresando de la escuela cae por una alcantarilla que unos despreocupados constructores habían dejado abierta tras irse a almorzar. Liam grita desesperado pero nadie le escucha, y decide pero con mucho miedo caminar por los túneles para ver si encuentra otra salida. Saca de su mochila la linterna que siempre le acompaña hasta para dormir.
En el andar de aquí para allá tropieza con lo que piensa que es una piedra, pero al enfocar con la luz es un libro viejo, lleno de tela de arañas y polvo. Se agacha y lo toma. Un aire frio comienza a circular por el túnel, quitándole la suciedad a aquel libro y opacando la visión de Liam como si fuera una neblina. Con un nudo en la garganta no sabía qué hacer con aquello en la mano.
Despacio y con mucha cautela abre el libro y comienza a leer las primeras páginas. El miedo lo quería matar pero era tanta la curiosidad que lo mantenía vivo. Se trataba de un libro donde el poseedor describía sus miedos pero desde el sufrimiento de otras personas. Esto lo hizo reír, eso mismo, lo hizo reír. Esta sensación de disfrute nunca la había sentido. Se acomodó en el piso y comenzó su lectura.
Historias de sufrimiento y terror, donde las victimas enfrentaban los peores miedos eran descritas al detalle. No había espacio para la censura ni la compasión. Casos de mutilación, trágicos accidentes y sucesos imprevistos. Ese libro era todo un manual o plan para aplicar cuando de venganza se trataba, pero para que quedara siempre en “escritura”. Algo como un libro de desahogo, y tanto es así que le quedaban páginas en blanco y es cuando Liam dice:- ¡Ahora comienzan mis historias!- Saca un bolígrafo y comienza a escribir...
Oliver era un hombre muy divertido, en ocasiones demasiado. No tomaba nada con seriedad. Era vecino de la familia de Liam y ese día se encontraba arreglando el jardín de su casa. Samanta preocupada por su hermano que no había llegado le pregunta si lo había visto, a lo que Oliver le responde: - seguro se está escondiendo de las cucarachas- A ella no le dio mucha gracia y entró a la casa. En un momento de análisis Samanta nota que dos de las personas que más odia su hermano han muerto de forma muy extraña. Demasiada coincidencia así que corre hacia su casa, pues quedaba James su padrastro y temía que le sucediera algo también. El solía decirle a Liam debilucho, era una persona que especulaba mucho de su fuerza.
Al llegar a casa James se encontraba haciendo ejercicios. Samanta le explica todo lo sucedido y le dice que su hermano no aparece. La felicidad se dibuja por si sola en el rostro de James y se acuesta en el banco de press para continuar haciendo ejercicios.
