Backpacking through Europe with a Family of 8

in Family Travel4 years ago

Our family backpacked Europe a few years ago and to this day it has still been our favorite excursion that we've been on! Started in England, zipped through France, trekked through Italy and then hiked through Switzerland! Here's the blog post with everything included!

Hi there @jasebennett welcome to Hive. Always great to see another traveller join Hive.

If your content is original, owned by yourself, and hasn't been posted on Hive or our previous chain Steem before, it's best to create a post and post it directly here rather than providing a link. Understand you may be doing that to drive traffic to your website, but that doesn't really help with getting support and rewards on Hive. So it really depends on what your priority is.

With regards to building a community, it's great that you've set one up so soon but it's quite difficult to gain traction when you're new to Hive. Writing a self introduction post will definitely help and don't forget to use the introduceyourself tag for maximum exposure. I would definitely recommend you doing that as it also helps to verify your identity. We've had many cases of imposters and stolen identity here.

Last and not the least, I'm from the haveyoubeenhere and pinmapple community https://peakd.com/c/hive-163772/created. We're the travel community on Hive and are here to support the travel community and travel content creators. Pinmapple is a travel map that allows you to pin your post on the map so you can see your travel posts visually at a glance. If you are in need of support on Hive, you are welcome to post from our community and pin on Pinmapple. Or if you're just looking for general advice, feel free to ask anytime.

Hope to see you around.

  • I can confirm his identity so he's good to go.
  • Also he has told me that he was just testing his first post and said he will likely put the content in full here. (can't speak directly for him but i think that's what he said) I also said using a picture is helpful for the UI experience.
APPROACH TO LARGE CONTENT CREATORS NEEDS TO BE THOUGHT OF A BIT DIFFERENTLY BY HIVE USERS

These are some of my present thoughts (which i have thought about a lot prior to this message) Meaning i have been thinking about how we should reach out to people who already make a living creating content and are already great at building an audience.
Consider this just a thought exercise which I also think @jasebennett will find very interesting since we've been talking for hours about hive/peakd.

  1. I don't think Jase should worry about hive rewards they will not sufficiently motivate him to put work into this platform. The focus and motivation should be elsewhere. To me that means doing actions that go after hive rewards are perhaps a bit of distraction.
  2. I am also not convinced he should spend most of his efforts appealing to the small user base of hive/peakd (some perhaps) but instead using what hive has to offer (true ownership of his content and true ownership of a community) and then promoting that to a much larger audience.
  3. For example: The number of people that already like Family and Travel or "family travel" is much much much greater than the number of people that presently use hive/peakd ... so creating content for those non hive users makes more sense to me and then the PeakD/Hive users that also like that stuff will perhaps also like it.
  4. Also his own number of followers (on other platforms) also far surpasses what hive has to offer. So it is my opinion that what we offer him seems to be a place where he can bring views, bring users and have true ownership of content and a community and true ownership of his connections with his followers he already has with zero risk of deplatforming and then PeakD will work on helping to monetize that content and monetize the community based on views (through future products) because reward pools will likely never be of much interest because they are extremely small and they will always have a daily limit. On the other hand monetization of views is usually unlimited. Also a good idea to focus on views because he already knows how to generate views.
  5. Also there is a draw back to getting distracted by trying to buddy up with large stake holders (with the intent to get larger hive reward pool votes)... where it seems his skill set is getting millions of people to consume content which is a far more lucrative and fulfilling thing in general than fighting over a very limited rewards pool and gladhanding larger stake holders. Reward pool should just be considered a perk... not the aim of Hive.
6b. When i was at his house describing Hive i barely even mentioned hive-reward pools or mention that there was a big audience for him to appeal to and yet he was excited enough to go out on his own (I usually tell my youtube friends to wait a bit) and he started the account of his own volition.
Personally I think even Tips should be talked about prior to reward pools. (We need that people have used votes as a weapon whereas tips can not be used that way and it is a direct action that has no oustide influence)
  6. I just think in general the approach to large content creators needs to change for us on Hive. As much as it may be an ego-buster I don't think they should be focused on creating content for us... i think they need to see Hive/PeakD as a tool for creating content for their own followers.
  7. Which means if it's not about reward pool and our small community then what is it about?
I think It's about a decentralized platform that offers TRUE OWNERSHIP. Specially the community feature... it perhaps becomes the MOST important feature we have on all of hive.
Imagine a sub-reddit/fb group that you have control over/ownership of and perhaps can monetize through promoted posts or ads (and maybe share the profits etc) ... on a youtube for example you make money on the views of your own content. But how about if you create a community with 1 million users and many of them create content... not just one person creating. That's working smarter with synergy. And you can help not just yourself but many other people are helped because of it... which also makes it much more fulfilling.
  8. Therefore the most intriguing product on hive to large content creators is gonna be communities... not just using them, but creating them/owning them. So i advise present hive users to step up their game because the big boys are gonna come in with skills and followers and change the game! I think they're gonna realize before our own user base that this is the the amazing product with crazy amounts of potential and they'll know just how to get people there ... once we give them a solid way to turn attention/influence/views into something that can pay the bills.
So a community owner right now needs to ask themselves what should they do to get a good content creator with influence to post in their community instead of creating their own and bringing in tons of users to it. Large audience would be helfpul... perhaps a cut of ownership? Perhaps a plan to distribute revenue? Even tokenization of communities could be an option? Maybe some really cool UI perks (peakd is working on that) We haven't found the perfect recipes yet but my money is on the ones who already know how to be successful with social media will be the most likely to find that recipe. But either way PeakD just wants to help who can find that recipe.
