Hello very good friends of the HIVE community, today I bring you the story of two little kittens that, with the help of a dear and close client of our clinic we were able to save from a very hard life on the street or almost certain death and give up for adoption.
Hola muy buenas amigos de la comunidad HIVE, hoy les traigo la historia de dos pequeños gaticos que con la ayuda de una querida y allegada cliente de nuestra clínica fuimos capaces de salvar de una vida muy dura en la calle o de una muerte casi segura y dar en adopción.
My name is Yoenier but I am known at the clinic where I work, as a veterinarian, as Dr. Pérez, I am a veterinarian and my main purpose is to help as many animals as possible.
Mi nombre es Yoenier pero me conocen en la clínica donde trabajo, como médico veterinario, como Dr. Pérez, soy médico veterinario y tengo como principal propósito ayudar la mayor cantidad de animales posibles.
A few weeks ago, an Angolan friend who cares for her pets with us at the clinic, told us that she thinks at work is a cat that had given birth on a roof. She works in an area with a lot of traffic, in the city of Luanda so some free puppies in such an area would represent an even greater risk to their lives.
Hace unas semanas una amiga angolana que atiende sus mascotas con nosotros en la clínica, nos habló de una gata que estaba en su trabajo y creía que había parido en un tejado, eso nos preocupó, pues la señora trabaja en un área bien concurrida y de mucho tráfico, en la ciudad de Luanda, por lo que unos cachorros libres en una zona así, representaría un riesgo aun mayor para sus vidas.
We took on the task of going out to look for the kittens and the mother, unfortunately at first we were only able to find two cute puppies, one male and one female in the makeshift nest that her brave mother had built. We monitored the pups for a few days and when they were old enough to wean, we picked them up and took care of them here, in the clinic, until their final guardians showed up.
Nos dimos a la tarea de salir a procurar los gaticos y la madre, desgraciadamente en un primer momento solo fuimos capaces de encontrar dos lindos cachorros, uno macho y una hembra en el nido improvisado que había construido su aguerrida mamá. Hicimos seguimientos de las crías por unos días y cuando ya estuvieron lo suficientemente grandes como para destetar, las recogimos y las cuidamos acá, en la clínica hasta que aparecieran sus tutores finales.
Finally the day came, everyone in the clinic was eager to meet the puppies that we had talked about so much, they were received with great enthusiasm and pampering by everyone, they were two beautiful and cute little kittens that only stopped meowing if they were eating or sleeping, most characteristic things of the species, they slept in a makeshift bed that we set up with a white plush hat that my colleagues contributed and from the first moment every time they were served a little meat it was a feast, necessary to remove the plate because they turned into a ball, 10 minutes after they sleep peacefully for a couple of hours.
Finalmente llego el día, todos en la clínica estaban ansiosos por conocer los cachorros de los que tanto habíamos hablado, fueron recibidos con mucho entusiasmo y mimos por parte de todos, eran dos pequeños gaticos hermosos y tiernos que solo dejaban de maullar si estaban comiendo o durmiendo, cosas de las más características de la especie, durmieron en una cama improvisada que montamos con un sombrero de felpa blanco que aportaron mis colegas y desde el primer momento cada vez que se les servía un poco de carne era un festín, necesario de retirar el plato pues en una bola se convertían, para 10 minutos después estar durmiendo plácidamente un par de horas.
A dear friend of mine had already informed me that his daughter had asked him for a kitten months ago and wanted to give her this beloved friend for her birthday. I am very suspicious of giving animals to children because they are not toys and generally, without good handling and parental support, they ends with the same fate as the mother of my two newly rescued puppies, on the street. But I know the family, in Cuba they had 4 cats with the best care and they even sent me a photo of them, to guarantee that they would be in good hands. So the male, who was the one they fell in love with, went with them, already dewormed internally and externally, with his vaccination book, the dates on which they correspond all vaccines and the commitment to early sterilization. Muchu was the name that his new guardian gave him, now he is another happy cat with a family willing to satisfy all his needs and a girl who melts for him. The photos won't let me lie.
Un querido amigo mío, ya me había informado que su niña hacía meses le había pedido un gatico y quería por su cumpleaños regalarle este añorado amigo, soy bien receloso en regalar animales a los niños pues, no son un juguete y generalmente, si no hay un buen manejo y apoyo de los padres termina con la misma suerte que la madre de mis dos cachorros recién rescatados, en la calle. Pero conozco la familia, en Cuba tenían 4 gatos con el mejor de los cuidados y hasta una foto de ellos me mandaron, para garantizar que estaría en buenas manos. Así que el machito, que fue del que se enamoraron, se fue con ellos, ya desparasitado interna y externamente, con su libro de vacunas, las fechas en que le corresponden y el compromiso de una esterilización temprana. Muchu fue el nombre que su nueva tutora le dio, ahora es otro gato feliz con una familia dispuesta a satisfacer todas sus necesidades y una niña que se derrite por él. Las fotos no me dejaran mentir.
The kitten, my favourite, spent more time with us, her new guardian, an older lady we trusted, had painfully lost her feline friend of more than 13 years of company due to an application fibrosarcoma, (a type of cancer that develops at the injection points in the kittens, which, if it is not very frequent, we always get a little case that, due to not diagnosing it at early age or not carrying out the vaccines at the right points, have a fatal outcome).
La gatica, mi preferida, estuvo más tiempo con nosotros, su nueva tutora, una señora mayor de nuestra entera confianza había perdido dolorosamente su amiga felina de más de 13 años de compañía debido a un fibrosarcoma de aplicación, (un tipo de cáncer que se desarrolla en los puntos de inyección en los gaticos, que, si no es muy frecuente, siempre nos llega algún casito que por no diagnosticarlo en edades tempranas o no realizar las vacunas en los puntos ciertos, tienen un desenlace fatal).
It was love at first sight, just seeing her from a distance made his eyes water because she reminded of her dear friend that she had also rescued being a baby the same size as the one we gave her. Likewise, she was delivered to her guardian with her deworming, vaccination dates and free sterilization commitment, as part of our small adoption program.
Fue amor a primera vista, solo ver a la distancia se le aguaron los ojos pues le recordaba a su entrañable amiga que había rescatado también siendo un bebe del mismo tamaño que esta que le entregábamos. Igualmente fue entregada a su tutora con sus desparasitaciones, fechas de vacunas y compromiso de esterilización gratis, como parte de nuestro pequeño programa de adopción.
Almost daily we hear about the babies, in their new homes, about their pranks and we worry if anything goes wrong.
Casi a diario sabemos de los bebes, en sus nuevas casas, de sus travesuras y nos preocupamos si cualquier cosa no va bien.
The mother cat, a week later, was trapped with a specialized trap cage to capture feral cats without endangering the animals or the operators, she was sterilized and marked (feral cats once sterilized, which cannot be relocated or placed in a refuge, the tip of the ear is cut off, under anesthesia and strict analgesia protocols, so that if it is captured again it will be recognized that it has already been sterilized), unfortunately an adult cat is much more difficult to find a home for and if it did not have a previous period of adaptation and socialization, her relationship with people will always be more difficult, so after surgery, recovery and follow-up for more than a week she was returned to her environment. Along with her, 4 more cats were captured between males and females from the same area and subjected to the same treatment.
La mamá gatuna, una semana después fue atrapada con una jaula trampa especializada para capturar gatos ferales sin ofrecer peligro para los animales o para los operarios, fue esterilizada y marcada (los gatos ferales una vez esterilizados, que no se pueden reubicar o internar en un refugio, se les corta una punta de la oreja, bajo anestesia y estrictos protocolos de analgesia, para si es nuevamente capturada se reconozca que ya fue esterilizada), desgraciadamente un gato adulto es mucho más difícil de encontrarle hogar y si no tuvo un periodo previo de adaptación y sociabilización, será siempre más difícil su relacionamiento con las personas, por lo que después de la cirugía, la recuperación y el seguimiento por más de una semana fue devuelta a su medio. Junto con ella fueron capturados 4 gatos más entre machos y hembras de la misma zona y sometidos al mismo tratamiento.
We know that it is not much, that the location of two puppies and the sterilization of four felines, will not solve the problem of stray cats, but if nobody does anything, we will never begin to improve. This world is not exclusive to us humans, we have a responsibility for being the species with the greatest capacity for reason and unfortunately for many years we have used it to destroy, don´t you believe that it is time to reverse this reality and that we all work together for a better planet.
Sabemos que no es mucho, que la ubicación de dos cachorros y la esterilización de cuatro felinos, no va a resolver el problema de los gatos callejeros, pero si nadie hace nada, nunca empezaremos a mejorar. Este mundo no es exclusivo de nosotros los humanos, tenemos una responsabilidad por ser la especie con mayor capacidad de raciocinio y desgraciadamente muchos años la hemos usado para destruir, no creen que ya es hora de revertir esta realidad y que trabajemos todos unidos por un planeta mejor.
