Pistachio is having a hard time....
It turns out that my other pet, Caraota, is in heat, which means she is preparing for what in nature would be mating.

We could tell this was going to happen because she initially expels a fishy odor from her genital area, I was concerned at first because I thought it might be a urinary tract infection, but as the days went by we noticed that Pistachio was particularly attached to Caraota. Normally they play and hang out together, but he seemed "smitten".

Then it happened...

Caraota started to bleed, normally we put a diaper that my sisters designed, something similar to a panty, it is something like an ecological diaper, since we only put something absorbent where he discharges, but we have to be very careful, since there is also the urinary meatus and to do his evaluations and urinate we have to remove the diaper, otherwise it is a disaster!

What happened is that now we have Pistacho, who is only 8 months old, in the first three jealousies of Caraota there was no problem, because first we did not have Pistacho and then Pistacho was more puppy, now the story was different ... everyone went crazy! Starting with Pistacho, but even his daughters were hormonal about it!

)

We had to act...

Since we were resting on our laurels, we had to take the decision to separate them, because it was terrible for Pistacho to try to ignore the call of nature, he was chasing Caraota, licking her everywhere, they fought, he wanted to be always on top and tried to ride her, he just doesn't know how to do it yet, so he danced in Caraota's face.

We know we could have foreseen this, giving Caraota a special contraceptive pill for dogs, which would have prevented her from going through heat and producing this whole event, but we really forgot about it completely.

There was no way we could leave them together because there was a risk that Pistachio would mount her and we would have Caraota germinating again, so separation was our healthiest solution for them.

We took Caraota to my sisters house, there she was with her little girls for a week and a half, we went every day to visit her, without Pistachio, because Caraota is very close to us and we wanted to make sure she ate and that kind of things, but it was not necessary, she was very well!

It's amazing how heat affects puppies! Pistacho was practically going crazy, he would cry for Caraota when we tried to isolate them right here at home, he would entertain himself for small moments at feeding time, or when we took him out to play in the yard, but it didn't last long, he would immediately go back to chasing Caraota and wouldn't leave her alone at all.

The hardest part was for Pistachio, since he has always been with us, first for his litter brothers and then for Caraota and her babies, so he is more familiar than a bunch of grapes, so being alone with us was not so funny for him, the sadness could be seen in his face, so we had to spoil him and keep an eye on him.

What we finally understood was that...
...It is not impossible to have pets of both sexes, we just have to be forewarned if we do not want them to mate, we have to make use of medical resources, which by the way, our veterinarian informed us that it is convenient to perform sterilization in both sexes, since it decreases the incidence of malignant tumors that are frequent in these small breeds.

Also, if I had to choose again between having both or just having Caraota, I would definitely choose again to have Pistacho❣️🐶 we must be responsible with our pets, every day we learn something different....
