Muy buenos días a todos los #hivers amantes de las mascotas. Ésta es mi primera publicación en esta linda comunidad que apenas estoy conociendo y ya me encanta. Quise iniciar con un tema bastante interesante para todos los que sabemos que es de suma importancia resguardar y proteger el organismo de nuestros peluditos. El tema que voy a tratar es el de la esterilización, y voy a compartir con ustedes mi testimonio y el porqué de mi decisión.

Very good morning to all pet-loving #hivers. This is my first post in this nice community that I'm just getting to know and I already love it. I wanted to start with a very interesting topic for all of us who know that it is of the utmost importance to safeguard and protect the body of our furry ones. The topic that I am going to deal with is sterilization, and I am going to share with you my testimony and the reason for my decision.

Hace aproximadamente 15 años tuve un Pitbull que se convirtió en el bebé consentido de la casa, era realmente mimado pero se lo ganó con su dulzura. Nunca tuvo una pareja, no quisimos llevarlo a ningún lado cuando querían sacar crías de él por temor a que lo maltrataran. Cuando tenía como 9 años adoptamos una perrita en situación de calle, no habíamos esterilizado a ninguno pero los manteníamos separados cuando ella entraba en celo. Al poco tiempo él presentó un tumor en su parte íntima que fue creciendo hasta reventarse a pesar de los tratamientos que se le colocaron y las quimioterapias. Murió a consecuencia de un cáncer de próstata y el veterinario nos manifestó que eso sucedió por no haberlo esterilizado ya que estaba en contacto cercano con hembras en celo y eso afectaba internamente al macho.

About 15 years ago I had a Pitbull who became the spoiled baby in the house, he was really pampered but he earned it with his sweetness. He never had a mate, we didn't want to take him anywhere when they wanted to take offspring from him for fear of being mistreated. When she was about 9 years old we adopted a street dog, we had not sterilized any of them but we kept them separated when she went into heat. Shortly after, he presented a tumor in the intimate part of him that grew until it burst despite the treatments that were placed on him and the chemotherapies. He died as a result of prostate cancer and the vet told us that this happened because he had not been sterilized since he was in close contact with females in heat and that affected the male internally.

Después me seguí documentando acerca de la importancia de la esterilización y cuando tuve mi siguiente mascota macho, lo primero que hice fue esterilizarlo. De la misma manera he hecho con los gatitos que me regalaron y los que adopté, y recientemente con una viejita que rescaté de la calle y un cachorro rescatado también, este último fue esterilizado hace exactamente 21 días, y el proceso ha sido un poco más complicado porque es un animalito muy hiperactivo. Y es él el protagonista de esta publicación. Su nombre es Snoopy Jesús. Se preguntarán por qué ese nombre, ya les contaré la historia. Más adelante les relataré con detalles el antes y el después de Snoopy, pero por lo pronto les cuento que ese segundo nombre, Jesús es del chico que me avisó dónde estaba el perrito y nosotros fuimos a buscarlo. Quiso que le colocáramos su nombre y allí está pues, bautizado y con padrino, jajaja.

Later I continued researching the importance of sterilization and when I had my next male pet, the first thing I did was sterilize him. In the same way I have done with the kittens that they gave me and those that I adopted, and recently with an old lady that I rescued from the street and a rescued puppy as well, the latter was sterilized exactly 21 days ago, and the process has been a little more complicated because it is a very hyperactive little animal. And he is the protagonist of this publication. His name is Snoopy Jesus. You will wonder why that name, I will tell you the story. Later I will tell you in detail the before and after of Snoopy, but for now I will tell you that that second name, Jesus, belongs to the boy who told me where the puppy was and we went to look for him. He wanted us to put his name on it and there he is, baptized and with a godfather, hahaha.

Snoopy cuando fue rescatado estaba muy mal, pensamos que no se iba a salvar y a pesar de los pronósticos el cachorro resistió el tratamiento y se curó pero quedó con un nivel de ansiedad muy fuerte que no lográbamos controlarlo con nada. Brincaba y ladraba todo el día cuando estaba en contacto con la gente que pasaba cerca del jardín, y se calmaba cuando ya se iba para la parte posterior de la casa. Una proteccionista me dijo que al esterilizarlo se calmaría, y de paso ya estaba en edad de hacerlo porque había cumplido un año. Estuve indagando los precios y no había podido reunir el dinero porque las operaciones estaban bastante costosas hasta que el cielo me escuchó y organizaron una jornada de esterilización a la ciudad después de casi 3 años sin realizarlas. De inmediato le aparté una cita a mi terremotito y el día de mayo lo llevamos. Cuando llegamos y se vio rodeado de otros animales estaba que salía corriendo pero a curiosearlos, es increíble su deseo por socializar con todos desde que los ve, sin miedo, y eso me aclararon, que su inquietud y su ladrido constante es una manera de expresarles a todos que él está ahí y que quiere compartir con ellos. Fueron unas largas horas y él se sintió abrumado viendo salir a otros animalitos desmayados, lloraba y quería acercarse a ver qué les pasaba.

When Snoopy was rescued he was in very bad shape, we thought that he was not going to be saved and despite the forecasts the puppy resisted the treatment and was cured but he was left with a very strong level of anxiety that we could not control with anything. He jumped and barked all day when he was in contact with the people who passed near the garden, and he calmed down when he already went to the back of the house. A protectionist told me that by sterilizing him he would calm down, and by the way he was already old enough to do it because he had turned one year old. I was researching the prices and had not been able to raise the money because the operations were quite expensive until heaven heard me and they organized a sterilization day in the city after almost 3 years without performing them. I immediately set aside an appointment for my little earthquake and on May day we took him. When we arrived and he was surrounded by other animals he was running away but to snoop on them, his desire to socialize with everyone from the moment he sees them, without fear, is incredible, and that was made clear to me, that his restlessness and his constant barking is a way of expressing everyone that he is there and that he wants to share with them. It was a few long hours and he felt overwhelmed seeing other fainted animals come out, he cried and wanted to get closer to see what was happening to them.

Por fin llegó su turno y no estaba muy a gusto con la idea de entrar ahí, se rehusaba, pero tuve que dejárselo a los veterinarios y retirarme a la sala de espera hasta que me lo entregaran. La operación fue muy rápida, casi 20 min, pero lo dejaron acostado un rato adentro esperando que reaccionara de la anestesia, luego otro ratito afuera para que se incorporara un poco para poder llevárnoslo. Al llegar a la casa durmió muchas horas más mientras yo iba terminando de confeccionarle otras pecheras y un collarín isabelino para evitar que se tocara la herida. El primer collarín era muy seguro pero me daba dolor verlo incómodo así que le confeccioné otro más cómodo días después. El post operatorio con Snoopy no ha sido lo más fácil del mundo porque llegó hasta a morderse y comerse la tela de una pechera para rascarse la herida en un momento que le retiré el collarín para que descansara. Otro día al no poder rascarse por tener el collarín puesto se acostó boca abajo y se frotó con el piso, casi muero de angustia cuando vi que se había lastimado la herida y estaba botando sangre. En fin, ya han pasado 21 días y aunque está bastante mejor fue una odisea evitar que se hiciera daño en la herida y tuvieran que volver a agarrarle puntos porque es un perrito demasiado inquieto. Creo que su carita lo dice todo, jajaja, las fotos de sus días convaleciente son el mejor testimonio de lo que fue lidiar con este enfermito tan especial. Pero la decisión la tomé para que no se repitiera lo que viví con mi Pitbull, y de esta manera él estuviera más protegido.

Finally his turn came and he was not very comfortable with the idea of going in there, he refused, but I had to leave it to the vets and go to the waiting room until they gave it to me. The operation was very quick, almost 20 minutes, but they left him lying inside for a while waiting for him to react from the anesthesia, then a little while outside so he could sit up a little so we could take him away. When he got home he slept for many more hours while I finished making other breastplates and an Elizabethan collar to keep him from touching the wound. The first collar was very secure but it hurt me to see it uncomfortable so I made him a more comfortable one a few days later. The post-operative period with Snoopy has not been the easiest thing in the world because he even bit himself and ate the fabric of a chest to scratch the wound at a time when I removed the collar so he could rest. Another day, unable to scratch himself because of the neck brace, he lay face down and rubbed himself on the floor. I almost died of anguish when I saw that he had hurt his wound and was bleeding. Anyway, 21 days have passed and although he is much better, it was an odyssey to prevent him from hurting the wound and having to get stitches again because he is a very restless puppy. I think his little face says it all, hahaha, the photos of his convalescent days are the best testimony of what it was like to deal with this very special little patient. But I made the decision so that what I experienced with my Pitbull would not be repeated, and in this way he would be more protected.

IMPORTANCIA DE LA ESTERILIZACIÓN EN NUESTRAS MASCOTAS

A continuación les voy a mencionar algunas de las razones por las cuales es importante esterilizar a nuestras mascotas, tanto perritos como gatitos, y por igual hembras y machos.

Las hembras (caninas y felinas), vivirán más tiempo y estarán más sanas ya que la esterilización previene infecciones uterinas, cáncer de mama, y otras afecciones en sus órganos reproductivos.
En los machos previene el cáncer en los testículos.
Con la esterilización las hembras no entrarán en celo.
Los machos no querrán buscar cómo salirse de las casas para ir detrás de otras perritas en celos, de igual manera pasa con los gatos. Cuando esto sucede corren el riesgo de quedar lastimados por el tráfico o al pelearse con otros machos.
Los machos tienden a tranquilizarse y se mantienen más conectados con su entorno familiar.
Los machos dejan de orinar los rincones de la casa marcando territorio.
La esterilización ayuda a evitar el exceso de población de animalitos en situación de calle que andan deambulando sin esperanzas de un destino seguro.

IMPORTANCE OF STERILIZATION IN OUR PETS

Below I am going to mention some of the reasons why it is important to sterilize our pets, both puppies and kittens, and females and males alike.

Females (canines and felines), will live longer and be healthier since sterilization prevents uterine infections, breast cancer, and other conditions in their reproductive organs.
In males it prevents cancer in the testicles.
With sterilization, females will not go into heat.
The males will not want to look for how to leave the houses to go after other dogs in jealousy, in the same way it happens with the cats. When this happens they run the risk of being injured by traffic or by fighting with other males.
Males tend to calm down and stay more connected with their family environment.
The males stop urinating in the corners of the house marking territory.
Sterilization helps to avoid the excess population of animals in the street that wander without hope of a safe destination.

LOS CAMBIOS EN SNOOPY DESPUÉS DE LA OPERACIÓN

Después de la esterilización de Snoopy he notado muchos cambios en él, no sé realmente hasta qué punto sea mito o realidad la tranquilidad que se genera en los machos después de la castración, pero si puedo asegurar que no es el mismo cachorro hiperactivo y ansioso de semanas atrás que apenas salía al jardín ya iba brincando como un canguro ladrándole a la brisa, al sol, y a todo lo que él iba encontrando a su paso. Sigue siendo juguetón, alegre, le encanta brincar y más bien tratamos de evitarlo para que no se lastimara la herida o sintiera dolor por dentro pero sinceramente él quería estar activo desde el día siguiente de la operación. Por eso fue obligatorio mantenerlo dentro de la casa y el uso de sus pecheras de tela y los collarines en sus dos modelos caseros, los cuales tuvimos que dejárselos por dos semanas para evitar que se lamiera la herida y pudiera infectársela así ya estuviera casi cicatrizada. Me asusté un poco porque no ladró en toda una semana, cuando por fin lo escuché ladrar al sentir el camión de la basura, me regresó el alma al cuerpo.

THE CHANGES IN SNOOPY AFTER THE OPERATION

After Snoopy's sterilization I have noticed many changes in him, I don't really know to what extent the tranquility that is generated in males after castration is myth or reality, but I can assure you that it is not the same hyperactive and anxious puppy Weeks ago, as soon as he went out to the garden, he was already jumping like a kangaroo barking at the breeze, at the sun, and at everything he found in his path. He is still playful, happy, he loves to jump and rather we tried to avoid him so that he would not hurt the wound or feel pain inside but honestly he wanted to be active from the day after the operation. That is why it was mandatory to keep him inside the house and the use of his cloth bibs and collars in his two homemade models, which we had to leave for two weeks to prevent him from licking the wound and it could become infected even if it was almost healed. I got a little scared because he didn't bark for a whole week, when I finally heard him bark when he felt the garbage truck, my soul returned to my body.

A la semana lo sacamos a pasear con su pechera de tela puesta para que fuera ejercitando y algo que jamás habíamos logrado era que él aceptara la correa y la cadena, siempre se retorcía y se maltrataba su cuellito. No se mantenía tranquilo en ningún sitio donde intentábamos llevarlo y por supuesto, se orinaba todo. Ahorita lleva 21 días dentro de la casa y no se ha hecho pipí en ningún lado, me busca para que le abra la puerta, estoy verdaderamente sorprendida. Anteriormente no podía dejarlo adentro ni 5 minutos cuando ya se había orinado todo, y hasta me rompía algunas cosas. Lo sacamos a pasear a todos lados y se porta bien, ya me lo he llevado al yoga, al gimnasio, y a hacer diligencias. Le encanta ir sentado al volante, jajaja, pero lo hacemos en sitios donde no hay tráfico para no ocasionar problemas. Está calmado, duerme tranquilo, ya no molesta a la perrita vieja para querer montarla a pesar de que ella está esterilizada, su ansiedad disminuyó potencialmente, y ya no sale al jardín ladrando desesperadamente, sólo lo hace cuando mi hija llega a la casa, y es natural, la adora, fue su ángel de la guarda rescatador y ellos no olvidan esas cosas.

A week later we took him out for a walk with his cloth bib on so that he could exercise and something we had never achieved was for him to accept the strap and chain, he always twisted and mistreated his little neck. He wouldn't stay calm anywhere we tried to take him and of course he wet everything. Right now he has been inside the house for 21 days and he has not peed anywhere, he looks for me to open the door for him, I am truly surprised. Before, I couldn't let him in for even 5 minutes when he had already urinated everything, and he even broke some things. We take him for walks everywhere and he is well behaved, I have already taken him to yoga, to the gym, and to run errands. He loves to sit behind the wheel, hahaha, but we do it in places where there is no traffic so as not to cause problems. He is calm, he sleeps peacefully, he no longer bothers the old dog to want to mount her even though she is sterilized, his anxiety has potentially decreased, and he no longer goes out into the garden barking desperately, he only does so when my daughter comes home, and it's natural, he adores her, he was her rescuer guardian angel and they don't forget those things.
