Hello everyone! Today I want to dedicate this article to talk about a very delicate subject, it is about medical (veterinary) negligence and the consequences of these acts on our pets, us and animal health in general. I will talk specifically about my case two years ago with my cat Freya, a kitten I adopted and who lost her life when she consumed a medication prescribed by her veterinarian. Before I begin, I would like to warn you that the experience here may be sensitive for many (reliving moments of pain or being overwhelming), but my goal in publishing this is not to cause morbidity but to give a message of awareness about animal abuse and as I said above, about medical malpractice. Now let's get started.

Two years ago my partner and I adopted a small kitten that was found in a market near our home. The kitten was with her mother and two siblings. They looked to be about two months old by the size and their teeth. We decided to keep one of them and put the others up for adoption. This was the beginning of Freya, a sweet, noble and playful cat.

Freya was taken to the vet for the first time on the second day of being with us. Here she received her basic care and was quite healthy despite living on the street. So after that visit and a few more days at home, she started to gain confidence with us. This point is important since this vet is the one my pets always visited, more on this later.

On the fifth day we noticed that Freya woke up walking strangely. She was moving with some pain and did not want to pee or poop. That day we had stayed at my mom's house and not at our house, which is quite far away. We decided to go to a nearby veterinarian who works at a farm because our trusted veterinarian could not go there either.

The doctor was very clear that what her colleague had done was a crime, a complete negligence. I could not believe it, so much so that I had to show the recipe. But we also felt very guilty, we did not investigate, we trusted the professional's opinion and those were the consequences. I could only wait for an answer from the clinic and when we called they gave us the news: Freya was alive, with good appetite but still weak.

She was discharged on the second day and we couldn't be happier. Freya was in good spirits all day, but we still had to do other tests to make sure that her organs were not compromised by the medication. However, something changed within a few hours. He was weaker, did not want to eat, sleep or receive the vitamins. Once again he was in critical condition and it was almost three in the morning.

We had no car, we called several lines and no one answered. I called the clinic, called my doctor and they suggested some ways to help her while I waited for the morning to bring her in. But Freya couldn't take the pain. She died in my arms and I watched as her little eyes slowly faded, her heart stopped and she no longer called me. It was one of the most painful things we have ever had to live through.

No teníamos carro, llamamos varias líneas y nadie respondía.

Freya died on May 8, 2021 at 3:30 in the morning. I filed a complaint against the doctor, who never took responsibility for his mishandling of the situation and for causing the death of the little girl. If you are wondering, yes, I investigated him and he is a graduate of the UCV so he was enrolled. Although I am no longer looking for him to pay for his crime, it did teach me to be more vigilant about everything that veterinarians prescribe for my pets. I do research on everything and will not let this happen again.

My message is not to trust the word of only a professional, if possible seek a second opinion, investigate for ourselves, doubt and then after proven, accept the diagnosis and prescription. It is unheard of that this type of professionals continue to practice and who knows who else has been harmed, the law is blind. The pain has subsided but all of us who have lost a pet in this way know how terrible it is to see our child go from being in good health to dying overnight due to medical negligence. As I said above, this is my experience and I hope it can help you. I say goodbye, I wish you lots of love and that your pets enjoy good health. Best regards.

I'm always very, very cautious when it comes to medication as it's a money spinner for the pharmaceutical companies..
I'm sorry, if I missed that point, but what was the medicine actually for? Why did she need any when she was healthy?
Great post, my friend. Very important!

Greetings from here. It is so, you have to be very vigilant with medications. She needed an analgesic for the pain she was having from not being able to urinate, although it was really a nuisance and didn't require it, just the antiflammatory. Things you learn. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this. I can imagine your pain cause I've lost a kitten too but not cause of medical negligence. You're right, we should be more alert instead of trusting the practioner 100%.

It's like this, honey! Not to trust ourselves and to be with two or four eyes on those who prescribe to us. A hug, thanks for stopping by and for your encouragement.

Otro!!

Im sorry to hear your story, very sad ending.......

I used to be like that too until we lost one of our cats due to bad diagnosis by the vet who was only looking for the money, you would think you can trust professional but thats very wrong, at the same time im not saying all of them are bad......
Always do your own research, never trust any vet or doctor, if its something more serious go for 2nd or 3rd opinion, do full blood test with any other test possible, talk to your community there is always someone who can recommend the good vet.......
The best option i found is to find a good holistic vet who will be looking at your animal as a whole and not only treat the symptoms.....
and also trust your senses, if your spirit is telling you the vet is probably wrong, listen to it.......
:)
and never use dry food....never.......
recently another vet tried to pull some tooth from our kitten trying to say she had to get them removed....6 month old kitten ..thats not possible, after visiting other vet we found out she had some bacteria, it cost us a bit more to do all the test but kitten is very happy now and short antibiotic course sort out everything.......
but that only because i did argue with that vet and told her i dont agree with her and i think she is not right.....
Anyway hivers, look after your pets the best you can....they give you unconditional love and trust.....
Peace!

Greetings this way! Thank you for your very thorough comment about pet care. I think that insight one learns with type, as you say, start to listen to our intuition and keep researching about it. Two, three or as many opinions as you can get.

How unfortunate about the kitty. It happened to me with a cat I found near my house and she had fractured. Because she was small and had a fracture, the vets told me she had to be put down. I flatly refused and she recovered with my care and lived for years with peace of mind. It seems that in a hurry or out of insensitivity, veterinarians make discards out of the blue.

And regarding the dry food, you are right. I include vegetables, fruits and proteins like meat or chicken for my pets. Dry food is not nutritious.

Thank you for your words and encouragement, I send you a big hug and I will keep the holistic doctor in mind. Kisses.

As much it is heartbreaking experience, please remember, cats have many lifes.....
Our cat already came back to us......im sure yours will do the same, there will be that day, that place and that time and he will be waiting for you......keep the eyes open!
Peace and love!
