A few days ago, I took Ethan to the vet and he was normal that time and only had cough. About two days ago, I saw a very tiny blood in his poop. I freaked out. I immediately took him to the vet.
It was a very scary time for me that day as I've said in the previous post, I know how fatal parvovirus is and having blood in a dog's poop and diarrhea are two of the symptoms of the virus. I was shit scared knowing that I may have let him get the virus and I will lose him this soon.
All things negative
At the vet, they immediately suspected parvovirus. They asked if his poop smelled weird. I said yes, and it was quite intolerable than before. Then they asked if I knew how a poop with parvovirus smells like and I told them no as I've never had a dog before. I was really getting nervous then they took out a rapid test for three viruses: canine coronavirus, parvovirus, and the other I don't know the name of.
They did some poop swab and put it in something that looks like a pregnancy kit, except it has three individual slots. After 5 minutes, they all came out negative. I was so relieved to see only one line (two lines for positive) for each of the viruses.
It was amebiasis all along
They then thought of something else with the same symptoms. They did another test but this time, to check if there are protozoans present in his poop. After looking at it under the microscope, they saw traces of the parasite and thus diagnosing him of amebiasis - an infection caused by the presence of ameba. They think it might have been caused by the tap water.
They gave me some prescription and I need to give him medicine every 12 hours, along with the one they gave for cough.
Training moved
His training that was supposed to be this week is moved to June 28, when his parvovirus shots are done. I also saw he's not so energetic so I just had to move it as I don't want to stress his brains out as well his physical body.
I'm very relieved he didn't have the parvovirus and that what he has now has a cure. He is recovering fast from what I'm seeing - his poop slowly returning to normal and his energy levels too. Hopefully soon we can walk again and he will undergo training that he needs too.
Ethan please be well and strong because the world without you will be incomplete, i am Looking forward to see you undergo your training.
Thank you! He is recovering well and for sure will update you all on his training :D
