So I thought why not try breeding guppies, many youtube videos suggest it's really easy with this species of tropical fish.
After a bit of research, the plan was to purchase and add 6 females to the existing 6 males in my 65 litre aquarium. Yes, I know the ideal ratio is 3 females to 1 male to help reduce stress but have no intention of dumping 4 males.
Side note: I have a huge 250 litre aquarium I had just finished running the 3 week nitrogen cycle (no idea what to do with this) to use as temp backup if needed during this breeding experiment.
2 weeks ago I purchased 6 young females from a local breeder and after acclimating they were added to my aquarium (no isolation tank, I don't have one).
This morning I woke to tiny fry swimming around the aquarium.
Obviously, these females were already pregnant so the first thing I did was transfer all the males (+2 females) into the backup aquarium and placed all the pregnant-looking females into a netted breeding box. Probably a bad idea but I wanted to save as many fry from being eaten by the adult guppies.
At this stage, I have no idea what to do LoL I can't leave the females too long in that breeding box. The obvious thing to do would be to keep all the adult guppies together and keep the fry in my main tank. In a couple of weeks, I'll post an update on how successful (or unsuccessful) this turned out.
I have no intention of selling guppies, I would most likely give them away to any locals who want them if this works out well.
Finally, to top everything off, my aquarium lights stopped working. A very productive day!

Congratulations on your first ever guppy fry @kiwibloke ! It can be overwhelming to suddenly have a new batch of babies to take care of HAHAHHA but it's also an exciting and rewarding experience. Remember to provide them with a safe and nurturing environment, I also have experience in raising pet fish, and enjoy watching them grow and develop. Good luck with your new little ones!😄❤️
Congratulations! I kept guppies for a while, i loved seeing all the colour variations mix, it led to some interesting combinations.
You have plenty of plant hiding spaces for the fry, i kept them all in one tank and was always fry swimming around. Might be an option if you aren't trying to maximise the numbers for selling.
