Actualmente administro dos consultorios veterinarios que atienden de forma gratuita a los animales comunitarios y de compañía, priorizando los casos de emergencias, ambos en el Oriente de Venezuela.
Primero quiero aclarar que no soy medico veterinario pero tenemos 5 medicos veterinarios atendiendo estos dos consultorios y les haré un breve resumen de uno de ellos, el mas reciente ubicado en Ciudad Bolívar.
I currently manage two veterinary clinics that treat community and companion animals free of charge, prioritizing emergency cases, both in eastern Venezuela.
First I want to clarify that I am not a veterinarian but we have 5 veterinarians attending these two offices and I will give you a brief summary of one of them, the most recent located in Ciudad Bolívar.

Este consultorio lleva por nombre "Centro de Bienestar Animal", aqui trabajan 3 medicos veterinarios de la ciudad y está ubicado en el Parque Ferial de Ciudad Bolívar, diariamente recibimos pacientes con alguna enfermedad o simplemente para control de salud preventivo, este centro funciona en modalidad mixta, tiene una parte publica y una privada a bajo costo.
This office is called "Animal Welfare Center", 3 veterinarians from the city work here and it is located in the Ciudad Bolívar Fair Park, we receive daily patients with any disease or simply for preventive health control, this center works in a mixed mode, it has a public part and a private part at low cost.

En los servicios gratuitos tenemos atención veterinaria, consulta, cirugias menores, emergencias, medicación, esterilizacion quirúrgica y toma de muestra para laboratorio, esto es en parte posible ya que a nivel gubernamental recibimos el apoyo por parte de la gobernación, alcaldía y Misión Nevado, una institución nacional creada para protección animal, también cuenta mucho los donativos que recibimos por parte de voluntarios y amigos.
In the free services we have veterinary care, consultation, minor surgeries, emergencies, medication, surgical sterilization and sample collection for the laboratory, this is partly possible since at the governmental level we receive support from the government, mayor's office and Misión Nevado, a national institution created for animal protection, the donations we receive from volunteers and friends also count a lot.
Normalmente recibimos emergencias como el de esta foto que fue un perrito atropellado accidentalmente por un motorizado, tuvo una laseracion importante y luego de preparar al paciente se realizo la cura y sutura del paciente.
Normally we receive emergencies like the one in this photo that was a puppy accidentally run over by a motorized vehicle, it had an important laseration and after preparing the patient, the patient was healed and sutured.

Muchos de los pacientes que asisten son animales comunitarios que son llevados por sus protectores, para ellos es de gran ayuda contar con la atención veterinaria gratuita, en este caso la señora Carmen Camacho llevó a eshe gatito para revisión.
Many of the patients who attend are community animals that are taken by their protectors, for them it is of great help to have free veterinary care, in this caso Mrs. Carmen Camacho took this kitten for review.
En los servicios a bajo costo tenemos vacunación y otros servicios que no son considerados de emergencia, esto para funcionamiento adecuado del lugar.
In the low-cost services we have vaccination and other services that are not considered emergencies, this for proper operation of the place.

Actualmente son pocos los tipos de cirugía que se realizan y dependen del grado de dificultad, en esto influye mucho la experiencia del profesional que atiende en el lugar, ademas hay servicios que no tenemos actualmente ya que todavía no poseemos dichos equipos y son remitidos a centros privados, estos servicios son:

Pero nuestra meta es tener pronto y en funcionamiento cada uno de estos equipos y se que con trabajo en equipo se puede lograr, aunque mantener un servicio gratuito implica gastos que deben ser cubiertos.

Una vez a la semana seleccionamos una comunidad diferente y atendenos los casos mas criticos, si algun paciente requiere una atención mas completa se le orienta que debe asistir a nuestro consultorio donde se le atenderá de forma gratuita.
Once a week we select a different community and attend to the most critical cases. If any patient requires more complete attention, they are directed to attend our office and you will be served for free .

La Parte Politica
The Political Party
Una complicación es que al tratarse de un centro de atención veterinaria gratuita en el cual algunos veterinarios decidieron trabajar con nosotros, encontramos cierta resistencia debido a que los centros veterinarios privados amparados por un gremio, no estuvieron de acuerdo en que existiera un sistema de salud pública veterinaria ya que según ellos perjudica la cantidad de clientes que reciben en sus clínicas privadas.
One complication is that as it is a free veterinary care center in which some veterinarians decided to work with us, we encountered some resistance because the private veterinary centers supported by a union did not agree that there was a system of veterinary public health since according to them it harms the number of clients they receive in their private clinics.

Esta fue una lucha que se mantuvo durante varios años y actualmente parece haber una tregua, principalmente porque hemos demostrado con trabajo que se puede tener un sistema de salud veterinaria gratuito que no necesariamente va a hacer desaparecer el sistema privado, el primwr razonamiento que usamos es el siguiente:
This was a fight that went on for several years and currently there seems to be a truce, mainly because we have shown with work that it is possible to have a free veterinary health system that is not necessarily going to make the private system disappear, the first reasoning we use is the next:
El que asiste a nuestra consulta es porque no tiene como costear una atención en un centro privado, es decir, esa persona en ningún momento iba a poder llevar su animalito a ese consultorio privado, entonces, no le estamos quitando clientes a nadie sino atendiendo una población distinta.
Anyone who attends our consultation is because they cannot pay for care in a private center, that is, that person at no time was going to be able to take their pet to that private office, so we are not taking clients from anyone, but attending a different population.
