Hello, Hive Family/Hive Pets Community! It's truly a great experience and honor to write a post here, flexing my fur baby and the simple life we have together.
Nearly five years ago, I wasn’t a dog lover. I didn’t understand the obsession with fur, paws, and slobbery kisses, until Cardo came into my life, a gift from my boyfriend when he was just a two-month-old puppy. Cardo was a bundle of fluff with a lion’s mane and a stubborn streak. He’s a Chow Chow through and through; sometimes aggressive, sometimes affectionate, always territorial. But beneath that regal exterior is a soul that changed mine. I didn’t just learn to like dogs, I learned to love one like my own child. From his first vaccination to every bath, brush, and belly rub, I became a fur parent in every sense of the word.

Cardo’s essentials are a top priority in our home. His favorite dog food is Top Breed, and he gets excited just hearing the bag rustle. But like any royal, he’s a bit choosy, so I rotate between Royal Canin, Aozi, and Vitality to keep his taste pleased. His grooming kit, chew toys, vitamins, and comfy bed are all part of the daily ritual. Taking care of him isn’t just a responsibility. It’s a rhythm we’ve built together, one bark and tail wag at a time.

Now let’s talk about his weight. Cardo is heavy, like, “I-need-a-gym-membership” heavy. But when stress hits and I just want to hug something warm and alive, I try to carry him anyway. We dance, just for a few seconds, me swaying, him confused but cooperative. It’s not graceful, and it’s definitely not easy, but it’s our little moment. My arms ache, but my heart feels lighter.

One of my favorite things to do is to take pictures of Cardo, especially when he’s perched on his throne: the seats near the window. He jumps up there like he owns the view, gazing outside with a look that says he’s pondering the mysteries of the universe, or maybe just watching the neighbors. I snap photos from every angle, trying to capture his fluff, his mood, his majesty. That window seat is his sanctuary, and through my lens, it becomes mine, too.

Since my father passed away, I’ve been on a quiet healing journey, one filled with grief, reflection, and slow steps forward. Through it all, Cardo has been my emotional anchor. His presence is a comfort, his cuddles a balm. On days when the silence feels too loud, he’s there, breathing beside me, reminding me that love still surrounds me. He doesn’t ask questions. He doesn’t offer advice. He just stays. And sometimes, I guess, that’s all I need.
Pets have a way of loving us without conditions. They don’t care about our bad days, our messy rooms, or our flaws. Cardo taught me that love doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be present. He’s more than a pet. He’s my companion, my stress reliever, my fluffy therapist, and my daily dose of joy. And for that, I’m endlessly grateful.

In this season of healing, like what I have just said, Cardo has been more than just a pet. He’s been a quiet companion through the noise of grief, a steady heartbeat beside mine when the world felt too still. His presence reminds me that even in loss, love finds a way to stay. It shows up in wagging tails, warm eyes, and the soft weight of a furry body leaning into yours when words fall short. Healing isn’t linear, and some days are heavier than others. But with Cardo by my side, I’m learning to carry the weight with grace, and even a little joy.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. Whether you’re a fellow fur parent, a pet lover, or someone simply passing by, I hope Cardo’s journey brought a smile to your heart. May we all find comfort in the little things and may love, in all its forms, continue to find us. Stay safe, Hive Family!
